When you are approaching red light, do you shift down all the way to 1st, then neutral? Or do you coast to stop?

  "choking Manuel" is understandable...but Fawlty start up proc............... ;D

Kind of late seeing this thread (just 3 month). :) 

I keep the car in (whatever) gear (it was in before), and step on the brake.  Then shift to Neutral just before complete stop (or stall).

I agree with citydude. saves the transmission and clutch. Never worn out a clutch though but put two sets of clutch master cylinder seals on Isusu Trooper. I think the reason for this was that the car was used mainly on highway 401 north of Toronto. If you use that highway in the rush hour twice a day you will know what I mean. Put too much stress on my left leg also. Automatics after that car. Incidentally, if you have a problem with clutch operation, make sure it is a clutch problem and not just master cylinder seals. The latter are just pennies to replace and you can do it yourself easily if you are a bit handy.
