For those questionig why Toyota ad to "grow" the new generation Highlander, the answer is that the RAV4 grew, and also got the 3.5 engine option, so they HAD to make the Highlander larger than the new RAV. And they wanted it to compare size wise with the Pilot and other largeish mid size non-truck based SUVs.

I understand "why" they did it, I just don't care for it as I think the current HL was the "right" size for my needs. The new one doesn't interest me that much (at least not right now and I doubt my needs would change to where I would need a 7 seater.

I drove an '07 about 2 months ago (rental) and it certainly wasn't as nice (IMO) as the
Hyundai Santa Fe I just parked in my driveway ;D.  A 7-seater GL AWD, perfect minivan
replacement (storage space is an issue with 7 passengers, but there's always a roof carrier).

This is another sign that Hyundai has got the message about quality; we'll see about the reliability
4 or 5 years down the road, but 100K warranty is a nice touch.

No doubt the new HL will find some customers among Toyota faithful, but I'm sure anyone
will be hard pressed to justify a $6,500 premium over the Santa Fe.
