Power sun roof
« on: June 11, 2007, 09:25:07 pm »
Greetings,
Need a hand with something I have not seen before.

Power sun roof was working fine for the longest time (actually since I bought the 2004 in Feb with 100K on it), until I decided to do some work with the battery...clean the cables, etc.

A few days later I tried the auto switch to open the beast, and all it did was move the unit to the vent position. hitting the auto switch open again olonly would move the roof down. Repeated opens eventually got it to open. Closing it was the same in reverse, except that I had to play with it a bit to get it to line up with the sheet metal.

I checked the service manual (one of those $5 CD versions), and could find nothing useful.

Anyone see this before, and have a solution?
REgards,
Zee

As a suggestion I would lube the chain drive in the roof with a product like Lubriplate as the slider can build up dirt over time as well as get tired. Dirt and stale grease will cause it to bind up somewhat if you don't service it on occasion. This may not be the ultimate solution but it certainly will help it out in the future. The switch may also be getting worn so any relief it gets will help it out as well.  :)

Google found this on a Lexus forum:

Sounds like the roof needs to relearn the sunroof glass travel. Hold the slide close button and keep it pressed until the roof goes through it's fully movement cycle. Sometimes when the battery is disconnected this can happen.

and on a Nissan forum:

In the Owner's Manual is a procedure to retrain the sunroof motor to the correct home position.

Try that first. If that doesn't work, you probably need a repair.

Levathian, U da Man! ;D

As usual, why read the manual when you can play with it for a while and go nuts!

Right there in the manual is says that after power loss the switch has to be reset.

Unit is a 2004 Chinook (SE), and all you have to do is follow instructions. Press the down tilt switch till the roof is in its closed position, and then press the down tilt for at least 1 second (I did it for about 5 secs on the premise that it would work 5 times better). Voila problem gone. Slide switch works great again.

Thanks, and as usual this site is the best to get help from the best!

Regards,
Zee
