Wax Now or Wax Later?
« on: June 09, 2007, 03:40:28 pm »
I had some body work done to the Sebring at the end of May which involved the painting of the front and rear bumpers and the driver's door.  I was advised by the body shop to not wax the freshly painted areas for 90 days.

Now, what about the rest of the car?  Should I hold off waxing the remaining panels until the 90 days are up or should I run to Ukrainian Tire and get me a bottle of Meguier's?

If your bored, fill your boots.  Else, why not just wait and get 'er all done at once?

D'oh! I wish the body shop had told me that when they fixed wifey's car!!! Oh well, I hope I didn't do any damage, I only waited a month or so...

^ depends on the paint and the process.  If they bake it than you can wax right away.

Typically you are not supposed to wax the vehicle for 30-90 ish days (different body shops will recommend different wait times) -with the key word here being WAX. If you must and cannot sit still... ;D... you can apply a pure polish such as Meguiar's #7 show car polish/glaze, to the paint and then remove. You should hold off on applying a wax/sealant type product until the recommended paint cure wait time has passed to avoid any potential damage to the paint.

Have fun... just don't forget to use a microfiber towel and sponge/foam applicator when applying/removing products!  :)
