Winter tires and wheel for 2007 Nissan Versa
« on: June 07, 2007, 02:54:25 pm »
I just order my new Nissan Versa hatchback in Blueberry color. Hopefully will have it in a few weeks. Living in Edmonton, I'm sure will need a good set of winter tire. Try Tire Trends, maybe it is new car, nothing is avaliable. Try Tirerack the following is offered:
185/65QR15 Bridgestone Blizzak REVO 1, $57 US each, set of 4 = $228
15x6.5 Sport Edition F2 Sliver Painted wheel, $ 81 US each, set of 4 = $324 (there is no steel wheel avaliable for my car in there web site)
Hunter road force mounting and balancing - free
UPS Canada Standard shipping $ 161.75 US
Total $ 715.75 US + UPS will collect additional taxes, duty and customs brokerage charges (not know the amount yet).
My question is: is it a good deal?
Is Blizzak REVO 1 good winter tires?
Anyone have experience order wheel and tire package from US to share?

The  REVO 1 is an excellent tire. I put them on my Accord.

As for taxes, etc, basically the blizzaks are most likely made in japan, so convert your USD price to CDN, then add 6% duty, and then add your PST/GST.

Duty and taxes are added to the value before shipping.

As for brokerage fees, dont pay them. When you get your tracking number, tell UPS you will broker your own package.

When it arrives they will call. You will go down to the UPS depot in your city, pick up the paper work, and proceed to your Customs office. (both the depot and customs offices are located cloe to each other, usually very near an airport).

Customs will collect your taxes, and stamp your paper work.  Take your paperwork back to the depot and pick up your new tires.

If you cant haul your shipment no problem. Tell the customs officer you would like UPS to deliver the parcel. Afterall you did pay for the shipping. Customs will forward the paers to UPS and they will deliver your tires.

Broker fees start at 28 dollars and go up as the value of your shipment goes up.

Thank you nan_wpg for your information. Do you think the tire and wheel package a good deal or as morty said, I should wait a little closer to winter for other deals?

I would wait till closer to winter, all that will be out there right now is the stuff that did not sell last winter  :D

Also, have you checked with the Nissan dealer for steel wheels?  They had good prices for my Pathfinder, less than what you were quoted in the US.

Wait, but not too long.  More selection and volume pricing in September.  Right now, you might get a deal, but you're laying out cash for no immediate reason.  I doubt you'll pay more in late September.  Just don't wait until November, or especially December.

I think thats a pretty good deal. If you have the money and feel its a good deal then do it, why wait?

I wouldnt bother with your dealer for steelies.

Nissan wanted 300 CDN EACH!!!! for a steel rim for my 05 Xterra.

No thanks. Aftermarket it was.

 :o :o :o :o

$85 each from the Kamloops Nissan dealer for my 02 Pathfinder.  But I went with Toyota rims for $80.

Even Toyota charged $80 for steel rims for our Sienna.  Sounds like a dealer trying to make a "fast" buck.

Steelies are $50 each at CT, although I'm not sure if I got them during a sale.  Vibration problems are hit-and-miss with their "multi-fit" crap rims (see vibration thread), but it's not really an issue I care about for winter driving.  The steelies on all five of our family 'fleet' show no vibrations, except on the Ford Escape at speeds exceeding 140 km/h.

Our local CT could not get steelies for the Pathy or Sienna for some reason.  Of course their parts people can't get their heads around anything if its not GM, Ford of Dodge   :rofl2: :rofl2:

When my parents got their Versa last January I advised them to go straight to the tire shop and get their OEM tires traded off on a set of Nokian WR's. They did and so far have been very happy. No extra wheels to purchase and no seasonal tire changing issues. The Nokians did grip well in the winter (the OEM's were crap) and should wear well in the summer as they have a 100,000 km treadlife guarantee.

Good idea to stick to dealer rims, just ask for take off's and you'll save a couple of bucks.
