Caravan / Montana SV6 / Mazda5 - Deals Anywhere?
« on: June 04, 2007, 04:17:02 pm »
Yes, yet another of these threads. My bro and his wife are shopping, likely to buy this month. She's pregnant and her '99 Accent 3dr with no A/C just isn't cutting it this summer (plus they have a Yellow Lab), nevermind it's getting hard for her to get in and out of. She doesn't drive far for work (under 5 mins) but will be the primary driver on trips once the baby is born (not that they go on many, but looking ahead). He has an '01 Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg.

In any case, she was stuck on a Vibe till I showed her the Mazda5 which she really likes. But my bro is stuck on Caravans and wants to buy his friend's - which I don't get as they're so cheap new with warranty and lower financing that doesn't make sense. They'd like to lease for lower monthly payments. Haven't test driven anything.

The Caravan Canada Value package: great value, but black bumpers and I don't think it has power windows, etc. But A/C, V6, etc... smokin' deal. I remember a post talking about them being advertised in the Saturday Star for $14,888 back in April. See them now advertised for $17,295. Cannot find lease and finance rates for this model - is it cash purchase only? Don't think so but dunno. Also, does anyone know of dealers selling for less, or does anyone have the Wheels section or ad from any dealerships in the GTA?

Montana SV6: More expensive than the Caravan at $18,9 right now, but has more features like power goodies, deep tint glass, and a MUCH more powerful 240hp engine. I see the rates on it.

Mazda5: Can't help but love it. Sister-in-law doesn't really want a van but can't argue with her husband against the value of the domestics. And this is likely the last year the deal will be on the table, with the redesigned Chryslers coming soon in extended wheelbase only and the GMs disappearing late next year. I think this is the perfect vehicle for them (no surprise coming from me), but he's not biting.

I gave her some others to look at (Rondo, X-Trail, etc) but she didn't like.

So, question remains. Can anyone help point me in the direction of some deals?

A new Caravan on a lease would be impossible to beat on monthly payment.

Would the 2006 Sienna with 1.9% financing interest them? (given the choice of vehicles I don't think so).

She would be driving around with the baby, power windows were very helpful for my wife and the baby.

I'd say Mazda5.

My brother has been very impulsive in his vehicle buying history. I'm interested in how things go. She wants to test drive models, so we're hoping to brainwash him into a 5, if she likes it.

In the end, I think the Caravan will wind up in their driveway.

Really, just want them to be happy with what they get, and drive something they like and can afford rather than just buying the deal. This would be her first new car, so she's excited no matter what happens.

This probably does not help but.........

The Kamloops Dodge dealer is advertising (10 only) 2006 Grand Caravan's, with Stow 'N Go, for $18,988 (reg $32,000).

And Coquitlam Chrysler is advertising 2007 Caravan's at $15,977 (brand new, 3.3l V6, plus 3 months free gas).

Maybe this can help with negotiations in TO?   ;)

Does help.

The '06 GC's I take it are used? Caravans sell well so no reason they would still be on the lot.

The '07 CVP price is great. I'll hunt for the same!

I laugh every time I see the Dodge Caravan Sales Event Shrek ads, where it says 3 for free, 3 months free payment and 3 months free gas are fine... but 3 month free scheduled maintenance?  :rofl2: What a joke.

Looked thru a Toronto Sun at lunch today.

The 3 Free makes more sense now. 3 months of payments covered (up to $500/mth), 3 months free gas (a $500 Esso card), and 3 months free scheduled maintenance (your first oil change is free). Or you can forego all of that for a $1,500 discount, which is what I would do especially if my monthly payments were well under $500 a month - if not, the 3 Free makes more sense.

The ad also said 2006MY and 2007MY vehicles qualify, so could very well be new 2006 Grand Caravans, which would be a steal and a half.

That may be the case with the Kamloops ones   ;)

Just called Craig Hind Chrysler in Scarborough where Guy bought his 3 Dodges (they've been exceptional for sales and moreso service). They indeed claim to have 3 new 2006 Grand Caravan extendeds with Stow 'n Go for $18,995. MSRP is $29+. Also have some '07 Canada Value Packages, but expect to sell out shortly. The Grand Caravans are an UNBELIEVABLE deal. If they're there, do expect them to go quick as they're already out of production, are big sellers, and also called Durham Dodge Chrysler and they claimed to be 'sold out of them since last January'  ::)

Menzies? Think they're terrible.
MacIntosh on Park Road (there's so friggin' many Chrysler dealers close together in the area) is quite small so don't think they'd have much.

Did call Village Dodge Chrysler in Ajax and they have 1-2 '07 Canada Value Pkgs left. No '06s. The guy (Matt) on the phone was SUPERB. I explained my sister-in-law was expecting in Nov and would like something higher off the ground and he said if she was having difficulty getting around or if it were more convenient, he could drive the vehicle to Oshawa for her to have a look at your home or wherever, no pressure. He was really great. I wonder how their 24hr service dept is.

Hi All,

Our 1992 Toyota Previa is starting to give us problems at 340000km.

I'm currently looking for a Canadian Value Package Caravan.

Does anybody know a dealer that still has them? And if so, are they willing to offer their promo price of $15 888?

Any help would be great!

I called around they there appeared to be a handful here and there.

There were also some new '06 Grand Caravans with stow 'n go for $18,9, and with DVD and the 3.8L for $19.9.

The much more powerful Montana SV6 (with power goodies and such) is $17,9 right now, which may be worth a look too.

If you buy a Caravan the problems will start at 34KM  :rofl2:.. don't expect a Caravan to be nearly as reliable as your Toyota

While that is an exaggeration, I'm surprised you aren't looking at a Sienna, given your experiences.  Even if it does cost a lot more up-front.
