Nice car!  Most stories I have heard about SMG weren't positive though.  Most negative comments were about its city driving habits though...

Congrats!  Yes I have heard some negative comments on the SMG, mostly around the fact in the city it is horribly jerky.

The 330ci is an awesome car, but I cannot comment on the SMG as I have not driven that model with SMG.

Congrats...when do you get it? Color?

Why not just get the manual tranny?  The 330ci is in abundance so it should not be hard to find.  Nice cars those e46 coupes.

My brother-in-law had a 2003 300Ci, 3 year lease, the buy out was less than $26,000. I drive it often, very nicely balanced vehicle, smooth and torquey engine. He had a bit of trouble in the winter, even with snow tires. On snow it is OK, on icy inclines / hills have to be very careful.  :)

Nice choice of vehicle. The out-law's Ci had issues with power windows. Other than that, it ran flawlessly.

Congratulations Rockaallen!  :)

I've read similar comments on the jerkiness of shifts with the SMG but I suspect that a significant portion of those are from people who thought they were getting a fancy automatic transmission which the SMG is certainly not. Part of the problem may have been misplaced expectations. OTOH the (similar in theory) DSG does not have the same reputation. I've also read that the SMG is awesome on a track.

:iagree: The SMG is a real "electronic" (or whatever) manual transmission compared to the many disguised automatics out there.  I've never driven one but from what I've seen/heard/read it looks like a great setup for someone who doesn't enjoy the DSG paddle thing.  BMW recently announced a 7-spd DSG-like transmission for the new M3 (optional in 2009 IIRC) so I guess that the SMG technology will be phased out in the next year or so.

Once again... i just love this forum! you get to read the good, the bad and the sometimes ugly!!

I had a 98 328i for 2.5 years and loved it... the kms were up around 211k and I thought it was time for a change...  the 04 330ci is dark blue with beige montana leather...and the floor is black carpet... I could not ask for a better combo on a 3 series... As for the smg, I love it even with the pause between shifts... and my g/f gets to drive... ( maybe )!!!  I think I would rather have smg than teach her how to drive a standard!!

Pics are coming soon...

As long as you have driven it and know what you are getting into then -- good stuff!

Congratulations!

I am no BMW or any car expert, I just like cars and can't give advice on SMG etc.

Since nobody has asked.  :ttiwwp:

or better yet, proper introduction of the car in the Show'n Shine section.  ;D

That leather colour looks just like mone which was called Natural Brown  in 2003

Looks great, Rock.  Nice, beefy-looking ride.  And very nice colour combo as well.

You should ask Snowypants for a ride down to pick it up -- betcha you'll get here faster than you ever thought possible.   ;D
