I love that bodystyle a lot, not fond of the new fondled one.

I prefer a multi-function steering wheel and turbo engine.
So my next car would be either a GTI/GLI or a Jetta 2.0T.

That's one heck of a bike rack.

That's for sure!  I've seen those types, but never installed or with bikes mounted.  It looks crazy...  heh.  Functional though, eh?  Are you still able to open the hatch with the bikes on?

Those Santa Monica wheels make the car. If I were driving by I'd be sure to notice your house with 2+ VAG vehicles in the drive.

Have seen a few of those bike racks. Wondering if you can open the hatch as well?
On a Smart they look really huge.

If you were in the market today, what would be your top choices?

I'm interested in the bike rack too ... does the hatch still open with it installed? Is the rack easy to put up/take down?

... oh yeah, nice car too! ;D

How about the silver one?

Maybe I can really hog some threads and do a brand new one for the silver one hehe

Are you still able to open the hatch with the bikes on?

With the bike on no, but I always have one or two seat down and it's pretty easy access if I need anything from the inside.  Usually I need to take the bikes down before I need anything from the hatch so it's never been a problem.

Actually 3 VWAG products (including the Audi)  ;)  edit: I didn't see the plus after the 2 hehe

You can open the hatch, but without the bikes.  I really wanted to put the roofrack with 2 bikes and then put my hatch rack with 2 bikes and carry 4 bikes in total.  That would be the ultimate utility car !  Just think, 4 people in the car and 4 bikes outside with luggage stacked in the back haha.

My top choices.....mmm..... honestly there are only 2 cars right now that I would be looking at.  1- The GTI 4 door, 2- Mazdaspeed 3.  I'm a hatch guy at heart hence the two choices.  I can't beat the performance, fuel economy, and utility of this car at the time I bought it.  The list was something like this at the time RSX Premium, Protege5, GTI, Matrix XRS, Civic SI.  To be honest, I thought the GTI blew the rest out of the water.

I only wish there was a 4 door option when I bought my GTI.

The bike rack is a breeze to put up and take down.  I can put it up in 5 minutes and then head off.  Putting the bikes on you may need two people if you are small or don't have light bikes.  I can put the bikes on by myself though.

Yes, the hatch still opens with the rack installed but not with the bikes on it (sorry if I've repeated it 3 times haha)

Here is the car packed for a 24 hour bike race hehe

The rear seats are 2/3rds down and someone actually sat on the seat to the right.  I believe it was only a 1.5 hour drive or so they survived.  That's the front passenger seat on the left and I have the drivers seat pushed forward lifted right out of the way (VW folks know what I mean).

Haha, that is similar to my ex-Golf when I moved to and from FL. Only I used up the passenger's seat too. Didn't pile quite so high tho... could see a bit out the back between the bike and such. Border patrol didn't even ask what I had back there... so much for security (not that I'm freaky-worried about border security with the US).
