Our brand-new 2007 M5! (ok, mazda5...)
« on: May 12, 2007, 08:58:31 pm »
As our family grew, we came to the point of replacing our Echo HB with something more spacious. When we bought our Echo back in 2003 we had only one kid; now we have two and third is coming any day now! We also have a grandma who lives with us for now. Our 'family' hauler (STi) is a bit harsh on little ones and can't carry 6 people. At the same time, we didn't want to buy a full-size minivan--I don't know why they still called minivans, they all so huge! They are also not very agile... even the handling king of minivans Odyssey felt bulky and heavy. Mazda 5 was a logical choice for us--it sits 6, handles better than many compacts, and it is very comfortable! So, today we got our brand new Indigo Blue Mica Mazda 5 GT reinforced with a dvd player and roof rack:

We all enjoy one-touch sliding doors:

Welcome to the family of nice cars:

Well, our little Echo is for sale, so it will not stay with us very long...

You can tell people you have an STI and an M5, eh?  :D  Very nice cars, love the Subaru.  The Mazda5 seems to be a great little car/van/thing, too.  Good choices!

Thanks guys! My poor STi felt abandoned today--no one wanted to either drive it or be a passenger in it. "What all this fuss about that new minivan???"  :)

Congrats on the M5.  Sure, you don't want to sell the STi instead?

Well, Saf, there is a "SOLD" sign on our front lawn, so we do move to a mega mansion soon... Similar to our Echo HB, our 1350 sq ft house became too little for us! Well, it will not be a mega monster house, but more decent 2700 house with lots of space in the backyard. I am not sure about juice/milk spills, but it is not a question of "if", it is a question of "when"... So far with 75 km on the odometer it smells good!

The colour is a bit too dark to our taste; I thought it will be more like on our former WRX wagon--world rally blue. It still looks good, but I suspect it will have the same issue as black colour--good when it is clean, horrible when it is dirty.

That's what my wife told me... No, it is not only a toy--it is a great winter beater that gets you from A to B safely; it has one of the highest in industry front and side impact rating; it has 4 doors!  ;)

I am also presuming the "M5" is 4AT? Not 5MT?

Very Nice! Congrats!

I agree that there's precious little "mini" left in most vans. M5 is a smart choice.

So is it manual or automatic? >:D

Congrats on the Mazda5 space wagon! As 2hondas asked, manual or auto?

The colour representation on the Mazda site isn't the best, especially for the blues. The intense blue on the site looks hot, wish it were more like that myself. Still, very nice.

Versus the STi, the 5 looks lower to the ground. Maybe just the sills, but still.

I've seen a lot driven by younger folks with child seats in the back, so am happy they offer it here and that it has caught on with the target driver.

Best of luck with the upcoming move.

I agree that there's precious little "mini" left in most vans.

Me three.  I was sitting face to face with a Mazda in a parking lot the other day, and didn't recognize the model, could only see the logo.  From the size, I thought it could only be a 5, but it looked too boxy.  I saw the owner walk to the car, put his child in via the back sliding doors, and noted that it was shorter than he was, so I still thought, must be a 5.  But when he pulled out I saw it said MPV on the back, must have been an older model in like-new condition.  I swear it was smaller than a Mazda 5, no where near as big as newer MPVs or other current minivans.  As with SUVs today (RAV4 etc) they appear to be doing a size-creep thing.

Anyway... congrats on the new car, it looks good in that colour.  I'm curious, and can't remember from when we looked at it:  do the windows in the sliding doors roll down?
