My Pocket Rocket
« on: May 07, 2007, 01:55:21 am »
This is my 2002 Kia Rio 5spd Base Model. No power robbing options (except power brakes of course), completely gutted and weekend race car. This project of mine has come a long way, but it's not nearly done yet. No plans to go forced induction, as there is a lot still to be done with an N/A tune.

Nice....seems like you've been able to turn a basic boring commuter into something a little more sinister and entertaining.

Any reason why you decided to start out with a Kia?

Thanks guys. I chose the Kia on price and fun to drive factors... The only other car I would have purchased at the time was a Nissan Sentra, and it was double the cost. Now I am faster than a stock base model Sentra for less than the difference between the 2 prices.

I have a lot more vids you can peruse here.

I'm not sure I've heard of anyone modding a Kia before...  awesome!  Nice gains - I'm guessing you did the usual, exhaust and headers, but what else have you done to it?  Those two alone don't normally give 25 whp gains.

Exterior:
KDM Rear Badge, 2005 Kia Spectra Washer Nozzles, Custom Grille

Interior:
OEM Tachometer Swap, KFX Short Throw Shifter, Gutted

Chassis:
KFX Strut Bar, Intrax Springs, KYB GR-2 Shocks/Struts, Whiteline Rear Anti-Sway Bar, KFX Nylon Motor Mounts, KFX Drilled/Slotted Rotors, EBC Greenstuff Brake Pads, Motegi RT-5 15x6.5 Wheels, Falken Azenis RT-615 205/50R15 Tires

Engine:
Custom Cold Air Intake, Meagan Racing Header, Flex Pipe, High Flow Catalytic Converter, 2.25" Piping, Magnaflow Muffler p/n 14814, Kuk's ECU Reflash, Colt Triflow Cams, Port & Polish Intake Manifold/Head

Future plans include standalone engine management, lightweight crank pulley & flywheel, itb's if my source is actually on the level, coilovers, and mandrel bent exhaust. Might go crazier on the p&p as well...

Being that it's my company car, it's gotta be the fastest N/A Rio in my area.
