Welcome aboard the fun house Kyle.

Any tips for Condo/Apartment/No Driveway dwellers, I don't like touchless car washes, don't trust people re-using cloth materials at hand wash places much.

Hmmm... well I do have one suggestion that could work... actually a few.

If you know any friends/family that have access to hydro/water, bring a kind donation from the local LCBO or Brewer's retail (just kidding.. haha).

In cases like that I would recommend using the local self-serve coin wash. For the first cycle rinse the vehicle thoroughly and before the cycle runs out fill up your bucket with some water (of course, make sure you bring a wash mitt, chamois/equivalent drying accessory, soap, etc with you ahead of time). Once the cycle is finished, wash the vehicle by hand and purchase another cycle to rinse. Finally, dry the vehicle and dress your tires, etc. Also: do not forget to clean your rims off during the first cycle.

This should be sufficient for cleaning the vehicle given the circumstances however, I would not recommend doing this at the local self-serve wash when you have a huge line up of people waiting for their turn. Doing so in a case like that may result in numerous odd looks and an assortment of unfriendly hand gestures from people waiting in line.  :)

Thanks, I turned away from coin-op place twice because of the lines. I think the first idea is more doable.  :)

If I go (usually in colder temps), I go at night.  But then, I get to park in a garage.

If you go to the self-serve coin washes during non-peak times, you should be OK. Even if there are only 4 bays and maybe a few cars in the remaining bays, then you might be able to pull it off. I know here in Ottawa there is a place called the "Glebe Indoor Car Wash" which is essentially an indoor self-serve wash (GREAT for the winter since its all heated) and they actually encourage washing the vehicle by hand, drying it off afterwards, etc) but again, you can't expect to spend 2 hours cleaning the vehicle in there around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Self-serve washes (depending on their location) are typically less busy between 9-11am and 5-7pm during the weekdays and 3-7pm on the weekends.

I'll scout out coin-op places some evening.

I park my car in the underground parking.

Some apartment/condo's have underground car washes for their tenants.

Welcome Kyle…. auto detailing guy. I am struggling to find a replacement for a good wheel/tire cleaner since the departure of Simple Green form the shelves. I will only use the “spray on wet tire” type which involves a pad or brush then rinse….any suggestions?

I use Meguiar's Hot Rims & their professional series product "Wheel Brite" and have never been let down so far. I find the Hot Rims is good for ALL types of wheel surfaces including chrome, aluminum, polished, etc. Typically with one application most of the dirt, grime, etc is easily removed. For more stubborn stains sometimes a second application with slight aggitation with a tooth brush or soft-bristle brush is necessary. I also saw the other day on drivingtelevision.com, a video demonstration of a wheel/tire cleaner product from Eagle one that seemed to do a VERY decent job as well. Incidentally, Eagle One also makes a product called "Nano Polish" for aluminum rims that I find works QUITE well, and delivers identical results when compared to Meguiar's NXT All Metal Polish.

Another quick tip: after cleaning the wheels, applying some type of wax/polish should help keep the dirt/grime build up down over the summer -and also provide a nice finish/shine depending on the type of wheels/rims that you have.

The things we do for those purdy-lookin wheels eh? ;D

With my SL”s on in the summer cleaning wheels and tires takes 15 minutes.
