General Exclaim UHP
« on: April 30, 2007, 12:04:32 pm »
Hi everyone,

I know you tire pros are out there. Let me know what you think about these tires.

I've heard nothing but good words for these tires, especially when taking into consideration quality for the price.
The performance is supposed to be good and I must say, they look great!

Also, apart from the pros, there must be some of you out there who bought them and can speak for them?

A close friend has them on his Mustang GT convertible.   When I found out that they were General's I nearly laughed myself to death.

However, having driven the car I must say that they handle quite well, are very quiet (not that you can hear much over the GT's exhaust sound in a convertible...his has a Magnaflow cat back).   They also wear very well (almost not at all), as this car spends a fair amount of time spinning it's rear wheels (mostly intentionally).

They have a very unusual tread design, and it seems to have an unusually high tread void area.
Internal combustion thrust I trust

General Exclaim is an entry level UHP tire. Decent for the money.

They're excellent in dry conditions, very good in rain, and horrible in the snow.

They also generate a fair amount of road noise on highways.

Other than that, great tires.  Very affordable.

I see NO answer to the "where are they made Question" and several States commenting on Sub Standard Chinese tyres being sold in the US of A...........I have had no problem with mid level tyres from Canadian Tire ( eg LXR tourings on my previous Mitsubishis....toured to Texas and many points East with them..No Problemo)..but if we are getting lesser crap thrown our way I for one am concerned.....not everyone can afford/or wants to afford Top O' Tha Line rubber...I cut back on 3 weekends BEER and bought Michelin Pilot Exaltos...just had a nail in One..dammit.....

Morty WOT is an "Entry level UHP TYRE????".............and are they necessarily of Chinese origin (the bad Chinese origin) surely they have SOME GOOD SOURCES....eg KuMho etc subsiduaries there.........?????? or am i dreaming

TO expand ...where are MOST of OUR tyres MADE these daze!!!!

Chinese is not necessarily a bad thing. I have seen 225/40/18 Goodyear F1 GS D3's that have been manufactured in China. By entry level I mean inexpensive. It does not have anything to do with where it is manufactured.

I beg to differ...U don't hear Gov warnings about Unsafe Tyres from any other COUNTRY...wot does UHP Mean?,,,,,and what percentage of Tyres sold for use on out streets are Chinese and what percentage Substandard...bet NO ONE KNOWS  like the other faulty products flooding our market from a mostly unregulated Country (in the sense of "safety & accountability")..Gov there has its finger in ALL the Businesses...and ONLY react when "caught" the crap still keeps getting made and folks stay silent......counting the $$$$'s... :'(

Exactly Saf...there are never recalls on tires made in any other country. Goodyear, Firestone...I think almost every tire company has had to recall a product or product from a production period.

Yes..UHP is Ultra High Performance.

This week they're on sale at Canadian Tire in my size (205 55 16) for $98 each (2nd tire 1/2 price). I can get Falken 912 for $96 each.

I see the Falkens are quieter (which is good). Reviews of the Exclaims can't say enough about their grip and handling. How do the Generals wear compared to the Falkens?

Just as a reference point, mine were good until around 36,000 kms with some spirited driving.

I just installed these on the S60. I'm really satisfied with their performance. Very quiet, smooth ride, very comfortable, good grip, much nicer than the OEM Pirelli P6 they replaced. I paid $139. a piece, installed for 235-45R17. W speed rating.

BTW, mine are made in Brazil.

I won't drive on the Falken 512/912's again -- they wore out WAY too fast and were somewhat unstable in the rain (speaking of 2 sets of the 512's here).  I have the General UHP's on order from Tire Rack, since they were the only place I could find (online and locally) that had some General's coming in in the next few days.  I needed the tires ASAP (insurance job), and all local suppliers were delayed 2-3 weeks.  Tire Rack was also about $40/tire cheaper after factoring in everything incl. shipping, duty, taxes, etc. for the 225/45-17 size.

I've had them on my Saab 9-5 for a month.

Mine are made in France.

Here are my observations: great road feel, outstanding wet traction, good dry traction, the handling on the Saab feels better than the previous high-end Michelins I had.

I got them through automotive industry connections. Taxes in I paid $470 for 4 16 inch tires.

We actually have quite a few customers running on this tire and feed back has been excellent. For the price they are one of the best options.

Sorry to hijack this thread but for those who are recommending Falken ZE-912 over General Exclaim, I would think again.

I've driven on Falken ZE-912 for 9 months and they are horrible, I've noticed they aren't even safe to drive through a puddle on the highway.  Snow performance is worse than a high performance summer tire and is more than just dangerous.

I'm considering General Exclaim for whatever set or whatever car I need to buy tires for next.  The deep tread and lots of siping should make it a much better tire than Falken ZE-912.

Can anyone comment more about how General Exclaim does in the snow?  I know a case of an STi making up the mountain with these tires, so they can't be that bad in the snow.

General is owned by Continental (a German company) if I'm not mistaken.
