Choices are not something you will see from the auto companaies in North America. The marketing gurus have proven that the consumer does not like more then 3 choices, if more choices are offered  then the consumer will move on. The average consumer wants a simple purchase experience.

Seems in other markets such as Europe, choices are numerous when purchasing a vehicle.

For example the new Volvo V70 offers 14 exterior paint choices, 16 wheel choices, 3 seat material choices with 17 interior colour combo choices.

I really like black or a deep red colour above all others.  My last car was black and my current one is "Inferno Red".  The red is almost as high maintenance as black.  I agree the choice of colours is very poor these days and most paints have a high metallic content.  The problem with metallics is they look beautiful in the sunlight, but not so nice on a cloudy day.  I would like to get some different colours and I was looking at "Silver Steel" for my Charger.  It had a nice blue tint in the sun, but just looked like a drab grey in the shade.  I may have to go back to black for the next car.

I have 2 blacks right now, and would be thinking of white for my next one (whenever that will be?).  ;D

I adore the gunmetal/dark gray/titanium, though I agree, it blends in more than a bit.  But is sure looks nice...

Still love black, and I've become quite a fan of white cars, too.  I wish Honda offered a white Fit up here...

No doubt true MkII, but why do car companies cater to the lowest common denominator? The NA manufacturers still manage to offer a decent, though not spectacular number of colours. The very profitable Asian manufacturers insist on four or five colours max, four of which are invariably grey, silver, black and medium to dark blue.

Offering few colours cut down costs and help with the company's bottom line.

My Light Almond Pearl Metalic (biege) ;D Sebring hides dirt quite well.  You can see from the edge of the windshield that there is dirt on the car.

But if the automaker offers more colours in other markets for the same car built on the same assembly line, how much extra would it cost to make the colours available?

Take the Yaris, for example.  Seven colours available in Canada, ten available in Australia.

Some current cars are available in colours like electric orange and lime green - love those; would buy them in a heartbeat if the car I wanted came with those choices.  On the other hand, Lexus has a model out in a sort of pearly-blue white that is truly swoon-worthy.  I do like it when a car's colour shows some character; it doesn't have to be loud, just interesting.  Doing the expected is so... unchallenging.  Even putting red on an Alfa is just ho-hum when all Alfas are red; to me it's not so much about the colour but about trying something new once in a while.

The other day I was out with my daughter, stopped at a big intersection in Richmond where the traffic on the cross street to our right remained stopped for a moment after we were also stopped - for the left turners or another direction to go.  What we saw on our right were four lanes of stopped traffic totalling perhaps 30 cars, ALL of which were either white, silver, grey, or something that blended in (I think there was a dark blue one but you had to strain to distinguish it).  It was such an astonishing sight that it caught both our attention.  There are DEFINITELY too many of those on the road.

Later EDIT:  umm, that was on our LEFT, for those who have trouble picturing the intersection!

White makes it go faster as many folks slow down and let you pass when you are behind them  as well as it being a lot cooler in the summer inside the vehicle.  I also think its much easier to keep clean also its definitely easier to see the dirt. Makes it faster to wash as well.  :)

Reminds me of looking out the front window of our office. That particular day every car in the front lot was a shade of silver or grey, except for my orange Vibe. A co-worker looked out to see what I was looking at and immediately commented: "They're all individuals. Except for you." Funny guy. ;D

That is clever!

The Kia Carens, of which the Rondo is the North American alter-ego, apparently comes in a bright eggplant purple in Korea... and yet here, it is kind of assumed that Asians are the group that loves those silvers and beiges.

There's a picture of the car in purple here on the Veriscope Kia forum:
http://www.kia-forums.com/kia-carens-rondo-forum/37084-rondo-sx.html
but you have to be signed in (perhaps some of you belong to their other forums) to see the photos.
