I think I'm getting to the age where I'd like to be driven.  Let someone else do the cursing.

Make that two people

 to the bike.  I keep thinking about getting a SS for my commuter.

Three.

We need a 'Bikes we ride when we're not driving' thread. :D

Head onto Off Topics and knock yourself out.   ;) ;D

Anywhoo -- I don't see how anyone can actually enjoy driving in the city - I don't.  That's one reason my trusty Surly 1x1 is sitting in the bike rack right now (Dorin is probably the only one who might recognize the name).

I grew up in B.C. and like AVT -> twisty and windy is the fun part. Which leads to the driving style I most dislike.... the guy who you would catch during the corners who was going SLOW .. who would then boot-it upon the first hint of a straight-away (so you had no chance of passing), who you would then catch up-to again (and again and again) upon the first hint or corners.

I agree, curves are fun and cornering wimps drive me nuts too.  Someone needs to explain to these people that the little yellow advisory speed signs are for trucks.  You can easily go 50-75% faster on a dry road and 30-50% faster in the rain if your center of gravity is less than 3 m off the ground.  No little yellow sign?  That means the trucks can take the corner while doing the speed limit so there's no need to slow down unless you're going way over the limit, in which case you should really consider driving at a reasonable speed on the straight sections too.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the illusion of speed.  With my Geo Metro I would instinctively drive at or just slightly over the speed limit most of the time.  It just felt like the right speed.  With my Saturn I find myself easing up on the gas every time I look at my speedometer.

I also agree about the best way to get around the city being on two wheels.  I use a cheap wal-mart bike though - it's less likely to get stolen and sand and salt will destroy any drivetrain unless you're anal about keeping it clean, which is not something I want to be doing when it's below zero out.

99.9% of the drivers out there have no clue how fast you can take corners... even in trucks!

I see the cornering speed signs as a challenge, I try to double it.

 :skid:

At one time there was an electronic sign at the Don Valley and  401, east bound exit.
The sign would flash if you where going to too fast.
The sign was removed because the concrete barrier was taking to much of a beating from people not making the curve ;D

There used to be a similar sign at the entrance to where I used to work, with a digital display of your speed and an electronic face.  If we were coming into work ridiculously early or late when there was no one else around, we would see who could get the highest recorded speed and the unhappiest electronic face as we launched into the carpark!  :rofl2:

I drive conservatively to save gas (money).

Citydude

Would it not make more sence to have bought a small car which takes less gas then your large SUV if that is the case?

Outlander is more of mid size wagon.
I would not say it is larger SUV

Mayhaps he needs the space?

In any case the Outlander isn't that big nor that thirsty, and there's hardly anything wrong with saving gas, no matter what you drive.

The Outlander is actually ~300 lbs. lighter than the Charger.  The Outlander's fuel consumption is also within 0.5 L/100 km of the Charger's.

Fun, but efficiently.

For example, when I was a university student, I rarely drove in rush hour traffic (7 am - 9 am, and 3 pm - 7 pm) and made sure that my class schedule was such that I didn't have to drive during those times.

I love going up and down the Sea-to-Sky highway (Vancouver -> Whistler).

I used to do that drive for an evenings entertainment in my Mini Cooper back in the late '60s. It was more challenging then, but with a lot fewer drivers on the road. Still is a nice drive today - at the right time.  ;D

Totally.

It's so busy these days, with the construction and all.

As long as it's not rush hour, I'll drive just to enjoy my car. Destinations are meaningless unless the wife is with me... :-D
