Anywhoo -- I don't see how anyone can actually enjoy driving in the city - I don't. That's one reason my trusty Surly 1x1 is sitting in the bike rack right now (Dorin is probably the only one who might recognize the name).
I grew up in B.C. and like AVT -> twisty and windy is the fun part. Which leads to the driving style I most dislike.... the guy who you would catch during the corners who was going SLOW .. who would then boot-it upon the first hint of a straight-away (so you had no chance of passing), who you would then catch up-to again (and again and again) upon the first hint or corners.
I agree, curves are fun and cornering wimps drive me nuts too. Someone needs to explain to these people that the little yellow advisory speed signs are for trucks. You can easily go 50-75% faster on a dry road and 30-50% faster in the rain if your center of gravity is less than 3 m off the ground. No little yellow sign? That means the trucks can take the corner while doing the speed limit so there's no need to slow down unless you're going way over the limit, in which case you should really consider driving at a reasonable speed on the straight sections too.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the illusion of speed. With my Geo Metro I would instinctively drive at or just slightly over the speed limit most of the time. It just felt like the right speed. With my Saturn I find myself easing up on the gas every time I look at my speedometer.
I also agree about the best way to get around the city being on two wheels. I use a cheap wal-mart bike though - it's less likely to get stolen and sand and salt will destroy any drivetrain unless you're anal about keeping it clean, which is not something I want to be doing when it's below zero out.
