How Do You Like To Drive?
« on: April 29, 2007, 11:00:20 pm »
So how do you like to drive?

  • Have a fast drive, getting to your destination as quickly as possible?
  • Have a fun drive, even if takes longer?
  • Don't really care, cars are just transportation.

Me, I like the challenge of a fun drive on a twisty by-road rather than an out right speed/fast drive.  May take me longer but I enjoy the drive more.

Speed has never been the priority for me.  I enjoy driving, and I can have fun without excessive speeds.  The only place for excessive speeds are on a racetrack, or on a runway....

I find with the trucks and cars I've owned I tend to look for the shortest route and the quickest time, fret about wasting time and gas if held up in traffic, or taking the wrong way, etc.

With the motorcycle the drive itself is the main point. Stop, look around, talk to people, detour. Getting lost is just an opportunity to drive the bike more.

Totally different experience.

I like to take the scenic route, but drive fast while doing so.  Which option do I check?

Just be wary of '49 Fords driven by guys called Tumbleweed or some such (sic) ....  ;)

EDIT - actually the guy to watch out for is Donald Turnupseed. He never even got a ticket and he (Turnupseed) caused the accident.  :P

Speed has never been important to me, and my choice of cars has reflected this. Give me a nice set of twists and turns and not much traffic, and I am a very happy driver.  :drive2: :drive: ;D

Actually not in this case, the accident was caused by the other driver crossing into Dean's lane. Dean was not alone in the car, and the passenger lived to tell of the accident.

:iagree: Same here….Drive fast and take the longest way usually with a fun part thrown in depending on the time of day. I don’t own a performance car with sticky tires just to say I have them…..I use them. I voted fast because few will.

Fun, which can mean fast, depends on the road.

I used to relish every time I buckled in.  But, that has changed.  Thanks to a lack of new roads and massive population increases in our city, traffic has become less "driving" and more "creeping and hopping."  Day to day, driving offers little more than a chance to sit and listen to the radio or a CD.

Even on the highway, things are different.  Highway 2 between Edmonton and Calgary has always been a boring straight line, but it was quite stress free.  Today, it's door-handle to door-handle and bumper to bumper the entire trip with most people paying little attention to actually driving.  Today, I avoid the highway as much as possible.

So, the mountains are now the sole source of driving pleasure.  But, that is changing too.  Increased trucking traffic has jammed up many parts of the mountain areas.

The memorable driving experiences are becoming fewer and fewer...

Ditto. My daily commute takes 5 minutes longer than it should because I take a detour from most of crazy downtown traffic.

I voted fun, I usually take detours, try to find scenic routes when going out of town.

You guys need to approach the city of Edmonton and ask where that tax money is going...because it sure isn't going to pothole repairs.

I drive conservatively to save gas (money).
