Punks
« on: April 24, 2007, 12:24:04 pm »
Saturday morning, I discovered some twerp tried to get into my car.  Damage is minimal, thank heavens, with the door look and surround being bent outwards and a very small paint chip along the lower edge.  I have my estimate appointment tomorrow (Wednesday) so the damage amount will be confirmed then.  There's a $200 deductible on the car.

That sucks, Winkie.  Are Sebrings viewed as easy to steal?  I've read that Neons are easy to steal, among several other car models.

Didn't damage the door that much, good thing you still have your car, was anything in there?

I had a similar break-in twice in my previous 2002 Corolla, both front doors, bent inwards, visible holes under the door handles.  >:(

That suxs Winky!....hope the damage is not too much money. The truck gets park outside and I leave the doors unlocked. All that has gone missing in the last five years is my Timmies change.

Many years ago, I remember there being a used car dealership on Barrydowne that left all the doors unlocked so you could just walk up to them and sit inside, check it out, etc.

Never really thought about it, but I guess its a "small" town thing. ???

Surrey USED TO BE the capital, but they were dethroned 2 years ago IIRC.  ;D

Thanks for your concern, everyone.  :)

That sucks, Winkie.  Are Sebrings viewed as easy to steal?  I've read that Neons are easy to steal, among several other car models.

Starting with the 2002 model year, Sebrings have the IBC-approved immobilizer so they're close to impossible to steal.  Tampering with the ignition will get you nowhere.

I believe we are.  Not something to be proud of.  The recovery rate is over 90% since nearly 100% of the thefts are joyriders.

Didn't damage the door that much, good thing you still have your car, was anything in there?

There was nothing visible in the car.  Also, in addition to the immobilizer, I use the Club as a visible deterrant.

Is that even worth fixing. I mean it is barely noticeable.

Barely noticeable?  It's time for your vision to be checked.   :o

Besides, with the door handle surround being that far off the door, that gives rain and debris a chance to get inside the door and cause rust.

Can't you push it back to the hole? Or it doesn't fit there anymore?

Nope.  It won't go back down.  There must be bent metal in behind it.

What bothers me is that even if they caught the little Snotnose who did it the Courts would not order any restitution from them to pay the damage so the owner gets nailed again a 2nd time. The Dam laws need to be changed for the offences of the guilty to be made to pay for their crimes and every dam cent of it with interest as well.  >:(

I had two friends in Saskatoon get their cars broken into for the aftermarket stereos, one in broad daylight in the parking lot of one of the malls. One good thing about oddball OEM designs is they are not really 'thief bait'.
