New ride: Altima 3.5SE 6MT
« on: April 20, 2007, 11:13:07 pm »
Just picked it up today.

I'l spare you chapter and verse on the purchase decision as there are many chapters indeed.  But it came down to the Mazdaspeed 6 and Acura TSX as two of the three finalists.

The Mazda had a bit of a ho-hum interior and the exterior styling is starting to look a bit old.  But man, what power!  What grip!

The TSX is aging very gracefully and has one of the best clutch / gearshift combos available anywhere at any price.  Interior is first rate.  And this car can dance! But I couldn't bring myself to go for something noticeably less powerful than my outgoing Maxima.

Plus, I feared that both of these models are about to be replaced by something I would have wished I had waited for.

So after a brief flirtation with a base model G35, I came back to what is perhaps the closest living relative to the previous gen Maxima - the current Altima.  A solid blend of sport and luxury.  I haven't been able to get half of the gizmos in this thing to work properly yet, but that's probably because I can't seen to hold still long enough to read the manual (it has everything but the CVT and the spoiler).

Enough blabbing.  Here are some quick pics taken at the dealership.

Cheers,

Jaeger

That's a nice car.  The sweeping lines of the front and rear lights are quite distinctive and brings with it, a sense of speed.

Congratulations, Jaeger!

Very very nice car indeed.  6MT is the way to go!  How is the shifting compare to the TSX?

Thanks guys.

Citydude - on the shifting experience:

The good:

Clutch is light, progressive and easy to modulate.  It's easy to drive this car smoothly straight away.  The gear shift is also a piece of cake, with well defined gates and reasonably short throws (noticeably shorter than the Max).

The not as good:

It 'aint no TSX.  The shift feel is a touch on the clunky side - not that you'd notice so much on its own, but in comparison to the super-slick Acura it shows.  The Aisin shifter in the Mazdaspeed was (surprisingly) very nearly as good as the TSX.  Finicky clutch on that beast, though.

I concur with Runs...  looks stunning.  I even like it in silver, and normally I'm kind of ho-hum about silver cars.  Love that it's available with a V6 6MT...  nice blend of sport and maturity, as you say, which the Speed6 doesn't display quite so nicely.

Still, I don't envy your decision, but I approve of your choice.  :)

looks great... Its good to see a big engine and a manny tranny in a uptodate car.

Thanks for the comments.  :)

Some interior pics as requested:

I like the texturing in the plastic - gives it a bit of a lift:

The HVAC controls are very similar to those in the Infiniti G35.  Not a bad thing!  :)  Very nice.
