   Fantasticar features Dodge brand characteristics

Superheroes need super wheels, said The Detroit News. The heroic quartet of the Fantastic Four—The Thing, Human Torch, Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic, will star in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” which Twentieth Century Fox will release June 15. The vehicle of choice for the Fantastic Four is the one-of-a-kind Fantasticar. In the movie, it is capable of speeds of up to 550 mph and can reach an altitude of 30,000 feet. Fantasticar can separate into three sections. Each one has deployable wings and can maintain the same speed and performance as the entire craft. And it has a HEMI®. Among the Dodge cues are the brand’s signature crosshair grille and headlights. Designed by Tim Flattery, a Michigan native and 1987 graduate of the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, the Fantasticar was inspired by the shape of a manta ray. The Ram logo appears on the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Also getting some screen time in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” are the Dodge Ram Mega Cab® and Dodge Durango.

It looks like a submarine...  which I guess is no surprise, given that it's modeled on a Manta Ray.

A silly car from an even sillier movie.  ::) :P

The biggest problems stemming from the introduction of these cars are the following:

1)  The natural flow of dialogue and movement is strictly limited inside a vehicle and when the camera focuses on the vehicle, the people inside tend to look like stick figures.  Half the time they are stick figures; dummies to allow for a dangerous action scene in a panoramic shot or at least were in the days before computer animation.

2)  They and other toys become the focus of the movie instead of the characters.  In fact, for some movie franchises, their introduction is the moment the franchise "jumps the shark".

One final note:  Talk about your blatant product placement plug.  ::) ;D

I'm not sure that futuristic cars are inappropriate in superhero comics-turned-movies:

And the idea of a Fantasti-car wasn't exactly invented for this movie:

"Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies. Those whom nature hath so joined together, let no man put asunder. What unites us is far greater than what divides us." -- John F. Kennedy, addressing Canadian Parliament.

I'm not saying they don't have a place, I'm saying that the movie makers risk having them become the focus for the whole movie.  Batman was a great, dark flick but by the time the fourth one came along it was just a string of scenes featuring some new gadget or other.  Silly.

Just because a prop existed in the comic or some other earlier source, doesn't mean it has to be reproduced in the movie.

BTW, what was the second link in your post supposed to be?  All it shows is something called "Fortune City Web hosting".  Hardly a Fantastic Four reference.  ???

It's a panel from a Fantastic Four comic featuring the Fantasti-Car.  It displays just fine for me.  ???

In the end, it doesn't matter much.  I take it that the image of the Fantasti-car matches the movie version?

No, but there were several different Fantasti-cars throughout the history of the comic.  I was just making the point that a Fantasti-car belongs in a Fantastic Four movie, and Hollywood shouldn't be blamed for putting it in any more than they should be blamed for putting a Batmobile in a Batman movie or the Blackbird in an X-Men movie.  That's all.

Okay, everyone who gets the no-hotlinking logo, just do the following:
- right-click on the Fortune City logo
- select View Image
- hit Reload/Refresh

You should now see the image that Mitlov meant to link to.
