Yes but BMW and Porsche were just not German, they were active military equipment manufacturers. BMW for plane engines I believe and Porsche manufactured vehicles and tank turrets.

That's not the point.  The point is that it wouldn't make sense to hold modern German companies responsible for acts in WWII if, nowadays, the German government and German populace honestly and openly condemns the actions of the Third Reich and its supporters.  In fact, the modern German populace and government DO condemn Nazi Germany--quite vigorously, in fact.

The people running BMW/VW/etc nowadays had nothing to do with whether or not those companies assisted the Third Reich.  By boycotting BMW, I'd only be punishing people who condemn the Holocaust and had no part in causing it.  That just doesn't make sense to me.
"Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies. Those whom nature hath so joined together, let no man put asunder. What unites us is far greater than what divides us." -- John F. Kennedy, addressing Canadian Parliament.

Well put. I wonder why BMW still references that period of time (with their spinning prop symbol) when the were an aircraft company for a war machine. They must be proud of the roots of their company...

The roundel goes back to WWI, not WWII, and was actually based on the Bavarian flag (the "propeller" explanation came later).  BMW made biplane engines for "the Great War."  The Treaty of Versailles shut down Germany's military, and so to survive, BMW started making motorcyle engines in 1919 and produced their first motorcycle in 1924 (a shaft-driven boxer twin, like the R-series motorcycles they've made ever since).  In 1928, they also started building cars.  So whether it's a Bavarian flag or a propeller, whether it's on a motorcycle or car, the roundel isn't a reference to Nazi Germany at all.  So there's no reason they should have changed it post-WWII.

I had lunch the other day with a older couple I know here in Town. The wife does Not drive at all and the Husband has a 1986 Toyota P/u truck in very good shape. He has painted it once only and replaced the clutch just once as well. The usual no of tires and brake jobs on this unit which has at least 770,000 klms on it. Dosen't use any oil and is totally road worthy as well but he is looking at another friends 2 year old Dodge Diesel P/U as his next purchase. He needs the extra room for travelling he says so the Dodge is the best buy in his mind as itsa cheaper in the long run to own he says.  :)

so he would never have to carry an animal in the back, or tow an horse trailer ::)

First, he doesn't tow anything...I know that for a fact. Second, if he needs to put an animal at the back, why would he need a 2500? (not the regular 1500 or whatever).

Theres obviously a reason why he chose the 3/4 Ton truck over a 1500 instead. I am sure its not for the ride as it will ride a lot former then a 1500 even. There must be something he does with it even if its only on occasion.  :)

If he wants a crew long box, not offered as a 1500 anymore.
