2007 Toyota Tacoma
« on: April 15, 2007, 11:09:11 am »
I just put a deposit on a new 2007 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 with the
TRD off road + towing package.
I didn't really plan on buying something right now but the dealer gave me
an offer I couldn't refuse.  I am in Fort McMurray so I just send out email quotes
to all the dealers in Alberta and got the TRD for basically the same price as
the SR5 package which is awsome.  I didn't think Toyota would come down that much but I guess it depends on the dealer.
Anyways, I got the Indigo Ink (dark blue) and it will be here on May 1st.
I planned on keeping whatever I bought for 10 years, I think I made a good choice.
Anyone else have a 2007?  Feedback would be great.....hey, it won canadiandriver's truck king for 2007, it's gotta be pretty good...haha...

Nice truck.

Someone else has a Tacoma here, can't think of their name right now. It might be an 06 though.

Congrats!

I love the way the new Tacoma looks, especially in black!  :o But Indigo Ink looks great too! Are there many new Toyota trucks up there? Or is it mostly big domestics?

Actually there is quite a few Toyota trucks here, the dealer here sells alot.
I was driving back from site the other day and I saw 3 X-runners driving out in the span of 30 minutes.
Seeing more and more new tundras too.
But the domestics are king here, alot of new Dodge and Ford's, plus
alot of diesels from all brands.
This is truck country for sure.....

It's a great truck.  Drove a 06 loaded TRD version like your 07.  The only thing is the tailgate is plastic and it got destroyed; like a big dip in it so much that it would not close.  So if your driving ATVs or motorcycles up on the tailgate you better keep an eye on that because I don't think they did much about it.

thanks for the heads up steve, did you use a ramp system or back the truck up to
a hill/snowbank?  or maybe it doesn't matter....

Used aluminum ramps; the kind that have a little bend on the top that just rest on the edge of the tailgate.  That bike in the pic went in there quite a few times along with many other bikes and ATVs so it had lots of wear and it was a demo so nobody gave a crap about it.  But it did need a brand new tailgate before it was sold.  I never thought about lifting the tailgate off first.  That is probably the way to go if your paying the bills.  :)

It's by far the best mid sized pick up on the market.  The competition are just junk in comparison.  It's fast and the gas mileage isn't too bad and the seats are better than the Tundra.

ok, i'll remember that, i do have a sled back east, and will eventually get a wheeler.
I agree, the tacoma is definitely a benchmark truck, the frontier is close, but not
as versatile.
Dakota is a distance 3rd, under powered for a V8, unrefined and the
inside looks cheap, if you load it up with all the options that I got, it's over
$40,000, then it's worth $20,000 two year later......
I made a good choice.....

Congrats on the truck but I'm just curious to know what was the offer you couldn't refuse? (Toyota usually don't negociate and since this is a popular model)

Toyota Tacoma / 4X4 Double Cab V6 / Automatic Transmission / TRD Sport + Towing Package: $39 080 MRSP
Toyota Tacoma / 4X4 Double Cab V6 / Automatic Transmission / SR5 Power Package: $36 005 MRSP

Back east, they call it Fort McMoney;D

well, I got the TRD + towing package for $40,000 on the road....(GST, freight, all fees included) which is a savings of over $3000 if I paid the price you mentioned...
Plus I get $1000 rebate because my fiance is a 2004 grad. So basically
$39,000 on the road..
I thought that would pretty good.  Also, the interest rate was 4.9% which
is pretty low for a Toyota.
For the SR5, they would have taken $37,000 on the road, which is what I originally
was gonna go for, but I figured for the extra $3000 I might as well get the TRD.

Your right, it is Fort McMoney
I'm gonna make mine and head home in 3 years....

Anyone else have a 2007?  Feedback would be great.....hey, it won canadiandriver's truck king for 2007, it's gotta be pretty good...haha...

We have one.  4x4, base suspension, quad cab, 6' bed, V6 auto.  It's a pretty good truck overall.  Curiously, the front passenger seat is more comfortable than the driver's seat (the back is more supportive).  The brakes are notoriously squishy and spongy.  This isn't just our truck--both Car & Driver and Motor Trend complained about brake feel on their long-term Tacomas.  The cab, including the back seat, is surprisingly roomy and comfortable for a "compact" pickup.

I know it mainly as a passenger; my wife drove it and the competitors.  The Frontier had a better drivetrain and better suspension, but a lousy interior (I can testify to the lousy interior as well).  Interior was very important to her, so we went with the Tacoma, but I strongly disagree with ArticSteve that the Frontier is "junk" in comparison to the Tacoma.  The Ridgeline's suspension felt too much like a car's to her (transmitting road irregularities as a single sharp jolt instead of a gentle pogoing effect), but she really liked how well the Ridgeline handled on dirt compared to a pickup in 4x2 mode (i.e., what you'd be in if you weren't expecting dirt or ice around the next corner).  We didn't look at the Dakota, Colorado, or Explorer Sportrac.

I was kind of thinking of those 3.  Forgot about the Frontier because new ones are rare around here as are Nissans in general.  Frontier to the Tundra is akin to the Altima to the Camry.  Both have medium reliability and average resale values.  Mileage is not great either, but they are a better bet than the other three for sure.

Ridgelines are extremely common around here--surprising, because southern Oregon is definitely domestic truck territory.  While I didn't get a chance to see the Ridgeline, my wife was very impressed by it, and only narrowly chose the Tacoma over it.  I hope that the Ridgeline is another Tacoma competitor that you didn't think of, instead of one that you classify as "junk."

I don't even remotely consider the Ridgeline a competitor.  Mitlov this is CANADA, not the USA.  Remember we pay, notwithstanding the currency difference, about 20% more for the same vehicle you do and then 14% tax sans Alberta.  PPl just don't have the same money to throw around on what amounts to a front drive PILOT SUVs with a different ass end that has some super femme "on demand" 4 wheel drive system.

Ridgelines are for suburban women and male graduate students.  :)

Easy on the woman-hating, there.  Last time I checked, this site has people of both gender.  Not to mention that my WIFE owns our Tacoma.  So if you think that a woman driving a truck is somehow a mark against the truck, maybe you should step back from your never-ending praise of the Tacoma.

Ridgeline is not even a  midsized pickup.  It's a Pilot SUV with the ass end carved out.  They appeal mainly to women because they are just that, an SUV. They don't appeal to most men, thankfully.   :)
