Sander to Wax Car?
« on: April 13, 2007, 04:07:51 pm »
I just bought a Bosch 2.2 A variable speed 7000-12000 rpm random orbit sander with a 5" disc and hook and loop fastening mechanism.

Could I use this, with the right pads, to wax and buff my car?  What rpms are good for waxing cars?

I'm hoping my sander isn't too high speed for waxing...

Buffing sure, not waxing

Taken out of context, that's kind of funny...  :)

Don't dedicated buffing machines run at only 2000-6000 rpm?

I have a 9" Chamberlin Polisher and it does not run anywhere's near that speed at all as it would burn a hole thru the paint if you stopped and just did one spot on it. They are a lot less speed RPM's then that for sure.  :)

I think it would help too if it has an orbital spin.

On my sander I start with a 60 grit, then follow up with a 100 to sand out the 60 marks. I like to finish with a wet 220 to bring out that metallic shine. The best part is you don't even need wax..
