I thought you wanted to get Bridgestone's Potenza RE050A Pole Position? Anyway, GS-D3 rated as one of the best max performance tires and probably is the best rain tire available on market! How do you like turn-in and generally steering response? Some people complain that the side wall is too flexible. I heard the same criticism about PS2, but they have great response--not as immediate as in R070, but great nevertheless. Do GS-D3 tramline a lot? Did you check them at race track/autoX? I am considering a replacement for my PS2, and possible alternatives to PS2 are
-Potenza RE050A PP (better rain performance, cheaper than PS2; should be almost as good as PS2 on dry roads);
-GS-D3 (better rain performance, cheaper than PS2; not as sticky on dry roads and less responsive);
-Dunlop SP Sport Maxx (way cheaper than PS2; worse dry and wet performance, but still very decent traction).
So far I am thinking that 050A is the best deal in terms of price/performance trade-off.
I have been playing with the tire pressure quite a lot and have found happiness at 38 psi. I did notice some slight flexing and probably why the car feels better now vs. 33 psi. The tramlining is none existent but my SO3’s were brutal but we do have very poor road conditions in Sudbury.
The steering response is great and I tend to turn in rather abruptly on sharp corners to test the limits and have not been disappointed. They are by far much much better than the Toyo T1-r’s I had previously. I had a nice run in the rain this morning and was again impressed. I highly recommend these tires.
