Dealer declined to do it...claimed that it was in an "odd spot to work on" and gave me the location of their body shop, about 10 minutes away. Bleh.

What about colour matching with the airbrush route?

Airbushing is the method of application.  Colour matching is the same as that of an autobody.

Autobody is many, many times more expensive because of their painting process.

Every dealer knows a mobile paint guy; they're just not giving a sh*t about your scratch.  I don't think they like you.  :)

Bleh, every shop I've talked to says that airbrushing will go poorly.

So my options are:
1. live with it ($0)
2. conservative touch up pen ($10)
3. lip spoiler (not sure on cost)
4. paint + refinish entire trunk lid + emblems ($450)

:(

I would go with either (1) or (2). Reason: You'll get more scratches and you'll care less with time.

When you finally have lots of scratches, then I think a refinishing would be more worth it. Otherwise, in addition to the added cost of refinishing multiple times, you will thin your clear coat each time you do it.

I just checked your lip spoiler link. That seems pretty inexpensive... is it good quality though?? Maybe it's inexpensive because it's small.... Would it cover the whole scratch? Do you like the look?

I don't mind the look at all, as its fairly conservative.

Fit and quality should be decent enough I think though I will of course be doing some lurking and searching on AZ for more information.

Caring less about scratches in time...true. Getting more scratches? D'oh. :(
I can see that my first new car is going to bring many lessons, in time.

I was jumping up and down when my TSX got her first scratches, I was so upset.   I researched scratch removal for hours.

I still don't like those scratches, but they bother me less now.

Lip spoiler: I think a lip spoiler can look pretty good on a TSX...

What shops would those be  ???  ::)

Air brushing is performed at least every month at every dealership, both new and particularly used car stores.  It's a standard practice.

You need a Hummer to drive, as in HumVee.  :drive2:

Visited two rather large collision places today, and they both said that an airbrush job would eventually discolour and look like a large circle of darker paint. ???

Maybe a few more shop visits are in order, but finals are starting and I want this sorted soon.

Mmret:

Your asking the wrong ppl.  Of course they are going to say that.  It's like going to a wood flooring supplier and asking if wall to wall carpet is a better idea.  :bang:

Dude, it's the exact same paint.  It just has more hardener in it so it can dry super quick.  It's a skillful process.  No repainting is perfect whatever app.

Naturally, Auto body guys want to paint the entire panel, it's good money.  For example, metallic paint by virtue of the laws of science, never perfectly matches because the metallic fibers in the paint set up based on the magnetic field surrounding the car at the time it's sprayed.  Consequently, in sunlight the exact same metallic colour, but from two different apps, can refract light differently.  Follow that?  :)

Go to any dealer that does not have an autobody or a financial interest in one and ask for the number of their mobile paint guy.  Maybe he will come to your house or office.  On a clear day over 60 F he can do it outside sans wind.  I've seen it done outside with snow flurries, almost.  :)

Contacted one said mobile paint guy with an airbrush. Estimated that it would cost $150 for spot treatment, and $250 for painting that spot and spraying clearcoat on the entire lid. Repair job might not last forever.

Trunk lip spoiler = $30 USD + shipping. Apply touchup paint on scratch to prevent rust, then put spoiler on top. Aesthetically looks good from the pics I've seen.

I'll shop around but I'm leaning towards the lip spoiler option. :)

Well being Hamilton  :) I'd thought you'd get nailed for about $80 cash.

Try gasoline and a match.  :)
