Combined Fuel Consumption Rating and Rebate/Levy Calculator
« on: March 21, 2007, 01:35:39 am »
I just finished an online calculator for 55% city, 45% highway combined fuel consumption.  Furthermore, it also tells you what sort of new rebate/levy would apply to the vehicle with that particular combined fuel consumption rating.

Check it out:

http://www.sixonethree.com/car/combined.html

Please let me know if you find any bugs.  I am not filtering for garbage input so GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) does not qualify as a bug.

Wing, if this seems useful I'm willing to donate it to the board/site.  Let me know...

It only took a couple of hours, and that's because I had to learn JavaScript since I had never used it before.  :)

Good stuff dorin.

Since most people don't know the NRCAN fuel consumption of their cars, can you add a link to their ratings?

e.g.

http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/transportation/tools/fuel-consumption-guide/fuel-consumption-guide.cfm?attr=16

Could you also add drop down menus with all vehicles so I don't have to look up my mileage  :-*

Don't forget to add a field displaying the acutal value of the rebate (if any).

Ungrateful lot are we!  ;D

Very nice, Dorin. It just helped me confirm that I get no subsidy for the Honda Fit.  :'( :'(
Just put the steering wheel in the DOWN position and the drive feels much better - watz up with that??

I think you did donate this to the board just now.  It would be cool to add someplace in the menus maybe...

Hmm all I get is the consumption calculation not the rebate, probably the proxy blocking it.

The calculation doesn't appear 'inside' the web page. Its a 'message box' that pops up and tells you the rebate/levy.

Doesn't do anything if the calculation falls in 'you don't get anything, Ha! Ha!' majority.

OK - I have multiple "pop up" blocking, so that would be the problem. My Yaris would get a $1000 rebate.

Nice job, Dorin!

Interesting result:  If I were to buy my 2003 Sorento today, I would have to pay a $2000.00 levy.  The 2007 Sorento has no levy, showing the improvement an engine and 5 speed transmission make.  It is mainly due to the engine, though.

Thanks Umro.  I just updated it.

I also updated the script so it tells the user that there is no rebate or levy if the vehicle falls in the middle of the fuel consumption range.

This calculator works at home... anyways it made me realize a few things.
1) The rating for the Mazda3 is ridiculous according to NRC it is 9.2 / 6.7  I get 8.5 on the highway doing 120... yes I know it's not done at 120 but still let's be realistic here.  I get about 11 in the city, 10.5 if I'm lucky.

2) That's not good enough for a rebate?  Wow.

Your car's fuel economy is very close to the porky 2007 Camry with that 2.4L engine. 9.8 and 6.5. I average about 11.5 in the city and 8.6 on the highway.

The Camry puts out amazing fuel economy numbers for it's class though.
