Day 1:

Hopefully today was the last day I'll have to scrape my windshield for a good while. The weather outlook for Thursday is 16 degrees and even better for the weekend. In other words, perfect driving weather to put some miles on the ultimate driving machine: the new BMW 335i Coupé. More ...

I only have one comment about this car........................................................ I'm sure the Porsches were nice and everything but when you're talking real world "affordable" cool car ... this is it! With the new V8 M3 expected to be in the 100 000$, the 335i is a bargain. Did you ask about the 4-door model? Cheaper? Sedan MSRP 49 900$ / Coupe MSRP 51 600$ mmmm 4 doors and performance |

I would totally buy this car in base form if I could afford it. The only other car in this range that I would consider would be an 07 Audi TT 2.0T 6mt - not quite the same performance level (albeit not too much different), but it's a lot more stylish. |

That 3.0L turbo sounds like it breathes fire into this demon.
I just feel sorry for those who bought the 330i Sedan only to have the 335i shoot out soon after. Then again, I'd also feel sorry for the M3 buyer given this 335i coupe! |

The coupe is slowing growing on me but I still think the 4-door actually looks better. Practical side becomes more important with age wisdom too |

Funny you should mention this. I was talking to my cousin about this and he pointed out that his friends who bought the 330 are perfectly satisfied and did not regret not waiting longer for the 335. Why? Because the 330 acceleration is more than adequate for highway merging and most two lane road passing and any critical situation where power is really needed. Trying to go stupidly fast on highway or winning stop-light drag race don't count. IMO Anything with 3L and 220hp/~220ftlb torque is enough for many of those who actually buy BMW 3s and use them for daily transport instead of fun machine. Yes I know as a car nut more power is always better. But then when the driver can't even reach the current car's capability ceiling, any additional power is just asking for trouble/wasted. |

Compacts and many family sedans are using 4bangers that pump out 120 to 170 usually, and its not like people are struggling to merge. All this extra power is pretty superfluous. |

By "not too much different," you mean 2/3s the power and FWD instead of RWD driving dynamics, right? |

My car's claimed 175 horsepower has never let me down when it comes to freeway passing, merging, et cetera--despite the weight of an AWD wagon. Maybe it doesn't slam me into my seat off the line, but in the real world, it delivers everything I'd need and more. I comfortably accelerate up a major hill--starting at 75 mph, sometimes reaching 85 mph or more if I'm passing someone--every day on the way to work. Just don't tell the Oregon State Patrol with their shiny new Dodge Charger that. More power would be fun, but it sure is not necessary in any way for the real world. |

While 220 is nothing to sneeze at, even mainstream Accords and Camry's have more than that now. Considering it's hefty price premium over those vehicles, BMW had to increase power significantly. I look forward to driving one of these soon.

I own a 330I and I'm very satisfied with the power, all 255hp and 220ftlb, however saying that if I were buying again it would be the 335I for me. Reliability is a key issue for me, and i'm not sure how the twin turbos will affect it.

I may well buy one in 2008 or 2009. I'd buy the 4 door, red with tan leather and a 6spd of course. I am not sure I would buy the sport package. For all the disparaging remarks made in other threads about 3-series without sport, my 5/8" higher non-sport 330xi can change direction and go around corners far faster than I can stay in the seat and to me 18" wheels are just asking to be scarred on potholes and kerbs. I would MUCH RATHER have the choice of getting conventional tires but BMW is not going to change their strategy just for me. A 2nd set of wheels with winters aint cheap in that size either.
However, I might go for the terribly boring Silver, Black leather and sport JUST BECAUSE it is worth more at trade in time |

believe it or not you cant get Terra with either of the Red exteriors that is actually what I meant by "tan". However, I am pretty sure from my previous expoerience that when actually with the salesman logged on to the ordering site that you can get most colour combinations.
I positively dislike that Lemon colour |
