Glad to see some Volvo influence coming in maybe (the comment on the seats) but unlike Mr. Chase, I am not a big fan of that type of grill.

There is already one on our street, in a copper colour, so it looks like it may do well for Ford.

After driving the Freestyle and being very impressed with it overall minus the old 3.0 litre, and after purchasing a Fusion and being extremely impressed, I am anxious to drive one of these.   The drivetrain from the Edge will find it's way into the Freestyle next year and after that I will have to make a decision between the two.   I have sat in the Edge and am very impressed.   I drove a 2008 Escape and thought it was o.k but understand it has it's niche and can be had for substantially less $$$ than either Edge or Freestyle.   FWIW I have only owned Nissan's/Honda's until this year.   Keep it up Ford.  And nice review CD!

Seriously though, this is, I think, the most nicely-sorted car Ford has produced in a while. I drove a Fusion last year and thought it was alright. The Edge was far nicer - granted, it should be, as it's a fair bit pricier - and a strong effort in what will be a very competitive market segment, what with the new Hyundai Veracruz and GM's Outlook/Enclave/Acadia trio (which I haven't driven yet).

I think the only thing that will distinguish the Edge from the Taurus X/Freestyle is the Edge's lack of a seven-seat option. I think, however, that the Edge might be the better seller, given its more SUV-ish looks. The Taurus X/Freestyle is a nice-looking vehicle, but kind of nondescript in comparison.

Stickshift...I am glad Ford resisted the 7 seat thing in the EDGE.  I wish one could delete it on most of these sport utes/crossovers.  For those who don't need them the extra packaging for the rear most seats eats up precious cargo room.  The cargo room is far more important to some than the two seats that, in my case, will never be in an upright position.  Not to mention the additional weight and cost - would rather do w/o or have a "delete" option available.    And yes I recognize that some do actually need it but seriously...get a Tahoe/Expedition or a minivan if you need 7 seat capacity.   Cheers

  The Edge is an improved effort by Ford. My major gripe is with the instrumentation. I (the cluster) does not "face" the driver (incident), the numbers are difficult to read day or night, and it is impossible to read the speed in MPH. The latter being important for those of us who drive south of the border.
