Motomaster Formula 1 G-05 coolant
« on: March 14, 2007, 09:49:07 pm »
Anyone use Canadian Tire's Motomaster Formula 1 anti-freeze in the gold jug? This is CT's top-line coolant and supposed to be (Zerex) G-05 compatible.

Lately, I cannot find these on the shelves and was wondering if it has been discontinued for whatever reasons.

Thanks.

I have and still have a full jug and I too have noticed that it is now gone.   :P

How long have you used it? If you've flushed it already, how'd the coolant look - clean or dirty/contaminated?

I'm just curious cos I see coolant residue/deposits coming out of the hoses and thermostat housing. This is the first time it's happened to my 2 cars running the Moto F1 G-05 coolant. Previous to Moto F1, it was running OEM coolant and didn't have the residue problem.

I'll be flushing the coolant this weekend with a water/white vinegar mix and see what comes out.

I'm curious to know if CT pulled this product out due to problems.

I would recommend the Baking Soda flush which will defitely clean out the rad and block passages. Pour a box in the rad and drive it for a week and then drop it out with a good flush. You will be amazed just how much bad stuff does come out.  :)

Early summer 2006 on 2 vehicles.

No flush yet.  First time on both vehicles.  One vehicle sold last month; 95 Bimmer in mint shape but I was letting my son drive it and he asked just before I sold it which sh*t went into that car and I was surprised that it needed any (low level lite had come on) because the whole system was recent.  It didn't take much but it got me  why  ???

The problem with this gold stuff is that it does not smell and it is almost transparent so spotting drops on the ground surface is not easy.

The other vehicle is a Acura 1.7 and I rarely drive it.  I'll take a look at it  though.

Quite possible. hmmmm  those Crappy Tire bast*ards; scr*wed me again.  :)

What kind of car is this?   Is it one with a plug in the block.  For example, in the bimmer in-line-6 one must remove the plug to properly drain the block.  On Hondas it's not so important.  It depends on the location of the lower rad hose.

My 2 cents is to forget the vinegar.  The problem is that you will never get all the vinegar out of the motor/heater core.  I would fill with water and run, drain and repeat this 3 times if you have the patience.  Vinegar works but it takes a high concentration, to high for a benefit v. potential new problem.
