Easter w/e here for the BMW . If it snows after then we'll travel by Fit.

This dillema is exactly what prevents me from purchaing Summer only (better performing tires).

The temperature can take a major downturn in Nova scotia anytime usually after remberance day. We just had major snow and freezing rain on Tuesday (1st day of spring. You really only have 6 months a year where you can be cionfident that Summer tires won't encounter dangerous (for them) conditions.

You really need 3 sets. Winter All seasons for October November Narch April and Summers. But it doesn't make sense if you care about $. So I switch between Winter's and all season. I usually put Nove 21st as my date to put the Winters on and  April 1 to take them off.

Don't need to change this summer with Nokian WR - hehe

Yup, I finally decided on the Nokian WRs too for my all seasons (Nokian RSI for winter).  Now I do not have to worry about being caught off guard by the snow.  How coincidental it is that when I switched to this tire just this March 17, the following day Calgary weather decided to dump some snow on me.  No worries  :D.

And everybody else is right with their suggestions on the timing.  I am only learning now how the seasons changes here in Calgary.

I witness a big dump of snow in the spring in Calgary a number of times, the only month I have not seen any snow coming down in CowTown is August.

Very good choice on the Nokian WR tires.

6 months without snow and/or freezing temperatures?  That's pretty good.  We only get about 4 here in Alberta.  Three sets of tires is overkill though. High performance all-seasons will work better than their summer-only cousins in cool wet weather and will be very competitive in most other conditions.  The advantage summer-only tires will have on the hottest days has little real world importance as this is when you need the extra grip the least (unless you're into racing).  The situation might be a little different if you live in a place where it can be hot and wet at the same time, but those conditions are mutually exclusive here.  As for late spring/early winter snow and ice, I read about a test of of some bridgestone tires the big American tire website (tirerack) did in an arena a while ago and the potenza RE960AS did almost as well as the blizzak LM-25.

I just had my tires mounted and balanced on the new rims.   I'm ready to switch once there is no chance of snow or road salt.  It turned out I had to buy a bunch of new lug nuts since the OEM ones are ball shaped and I needed cone shaped ones with the aftermarket rims.
