The 2007 Dodge Nitro, or, what I like to call the modern macho machine. I do not think any vehicle on the road today exudes more macho-ism than the Dodge Nitro -- except maybe the Hummer. Oddly enough, for the first time, I saw a woman driving a Nitro the other day. I didn't think I would ever witness that, as I see the Nitro targeted aggressively towards men. More ...

The front end design could really use some cleaning up, it looks terrible. And the back end is so bland. Its a good concept though, and if they polished it up a bit, I might even consider buying it. |

Will be interesting to see how this performs.
And you are right about the motor. My Pathfinder has a 3.5 that develops 250 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. Wonder why this 3.7 is so low? |

I don't read too much into specific SAE Hp numbers, as at-the-wheel values vary considerably.
But that said, I think the biggest thing the Nitro has going for it is its looks. |

IMO, no vehicle could be THAT bad. |

I didn’t think I would ever witness that, as I see the Nitro targeted aggressively towards men. In my experience, gender stereotypes about male and female vehicles are often inaccurate. Heck, the office manager at my office, a middle-aged woman, drives a Charger Daytona. A yellow-and-black one. |

Wouldn't even consider this vehicle until crash ratings have been released. If the results are anything like Jeep... no way!

Why would one consider this against one of the Japanese cute-utes ? It is ugly. Why would one apply the brakes and put on ones indicator to even pull into a Dodge dealer to look at it.
I suppose it is cheaper. Will it last without developing rattles? It appears to have a huge and inefficient engine with terrible economy ( according to the 2007 Cdn fuel guide. )
But it can tow more than either the CRV or RAV4

I think it looks dang nice and aggressive exterior-wise... R/T even more so (the wheels make the difference for me). Love the masculine bullet boxy shape.
The interior could be a little more warm. We have a current generation Ram at home, and it looks like a similar interior in different scale. The colours and radio and seats, etc. The materials are rather hard, and bland, but it's fairly functional and 'fraid to say you get used to it - not that it couldn't be improved a great deal! Have to note how quiet and rattle-free the Ram is as well. Hope the same is true of their other products.
Does yours have the rear extending cargo floor?
I find the pricing pretty stiff. No doubt there'll be incentives galore, otherwise I'd be looking elsewhere. Are the Nitro/Liberty worth THAT much more over a Compass? I guess the engines are different, and plus sized a tad, but tough competition in their own showroom (at least in Canada). |

But it can tow more than either the CRV or RAV4 Mechanically, it's a proper 4x4 SUV, not a crossover "cute ute." Its Japanese competition is the XTerra and FJ Cruiser, not RAV4 and CRV. |

That all depends on whether you want a truck-based 4x4 or a car-based AWD crossover. If you want the former, the Nitro/Liberty are definitely a better fit than the Compass/Patriot. |

Me bad I thought it was a "cute ute" type, not a Liberty/XTerra/FJ Cruiser competitor. I would never have thought of it in this segment myself. Better test its off-road abilities Mr. Wing to see if it is a contender or pretender |

Based on its looks I like the Nitro and the name is cool also. It definitely exudes masculinity but I would not be surprised to see a women driving one, some chicks dig that!! I even think I might dig a chick that digs that Still there will be more guys looking at the Nitro then gals unless it become available in pink or should I say a nice masculine salmon. In comparison to its competition Liberty is boring X-terra is OK FJ is quirky looking (in a good way) For driving comfort I wouldn't expect much ... it's a dodge and probably drives more like a truck. I expect that the Nitro will be a success for dodge, well relative to the rest of there line up. |

I am curious how the Nitro drives versus the Liberty. The Nitro has IRS, whereas the Lib does not. |
