I just noticed this engine under the Passat Wagon on VW.ca Type Inline four-cylinder spark-ignition engine with fuel straight injection (FSI), exhaust turbocharger with intercooler, four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshafts (DOHC) Displacement 2,771 cm3 Horsepower (SAE) @ rpm 190 @ 6,000 Maximum torque, lbs - ft @ rpm 206 @ 3,200A 2.7T with only 190hp?

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

You got a link? I only see the 2.0T and 3.6 V6. |

I'm sure it is an error but it does say 4 cyl and turbo. |

So it needs a "partial recall", cause the web master did a half-@$$ job. The new 2.0T provides more power, more torque and better fuel economy and weighs less than the old 2.8L V6 (which could be found on older A4s/Passats/Jetta VR6s/GTI VR6s). |

An LGT Wagon is $41,795 and you need nothing else. The base A4 Avant has a wheezing 2.0 and when loaded up with passengers and gear would be underpowered. The back seat has no more room than my Impreza and other compacts.
With the Avant your need to add $750 for a metallic paint finish and $700 to get out of the 16” wheels to match the LGT. And if you want to get comparable power then the A4 to catapults to over $50k with the 3.2. Might as well start looking in t a A6.
A BMW 328xi has better power but when you add metallic paint and want 17” wheels you are at $48k quickly.
Now, my old 1.8t Passat was a lemon, but when the engine worked, it sure didn't wheeze. The current 2.0t makes an honest 200hp and has a pretty impressive torque curve. Fuel economy should be better than even a non-turbo Legacy. Plus, I don't think the drag strip numbers are too far off from each other. As for room, the newer A4s are a bit larger, but that is also a big problem with Subies : useless back seats. I can't sit in the back of a Legacy, Forester or Impreza, and the bench is strictly 2 accross, meaning I'll never get one even if I like the cars. In any case, for Passat or Legacy, the base trims make sense moneywise, but upper trims lose in the value dpt. |

Thinking about it. If people think the 06/07 Passat V6 is too expensive compared to 2.0T.
It was even worse before 2005 when the Passat 1.8T (170HP) and 2.8 V6 (190HP) had a similar pricing structure like todays Passat 2.0T/V6. |

Really? I find the back seat of our Forester very comfy, and I find a Legacy back-seat very spacious! We pur four adults and four people's climbing gear (each with a big pack and duffle bags) in the Forester for a trip, and everyone was happy. Three in the rear is tighter, but around town, no problem. |

That is why I got the wagon this time so I can take the “fun” car for weekend trips to Grandmas. |

Of course, when I opened the hatch, gear "exploded" all over the parking lot... (and yes, we give Dave, the owner of those teal coloured boots a VERY hard time over the rather feminine colour...but they do match one of the ropes, as seen on the parking block) |

Having owned a Passat for three years I certainly feel qualified to speak on the quality of these vehicles. I can honestly say that my own VW has been the worst car I have owned for faults, no car I have owned has had as many items fail on it. To me the author is absolutely correct, if VW had a faultless quality record then the car would be good value, but for a company with a poor a record for quality as VW, 41K for a wagon is way over priced.
Everyone else is welcome to their opinion, but if you buy one of these vehicles, when it starts falling apart after 12 months and both the dealer and VW don't give a c__p! don't say you were not warned. |

Three in the rear is tighter, but around town, no problem. For now, my rear passengers are my 3 daughters, and "me behind myself" is a gauge as to how a child seat will fit. Child seats push kids up and forward. A simple numbers check show that a Mazda 6 wagon, for example, has a bigger back seat than the Subie wagon. The Passat discussed here is Volvo V70-sized, much roomier than a Legacy. |

I owned mine for 18 months. First 12 months were fine, then the coilpack failures started, amongst other things (how does 35 idled days at the dealership in 8 continuous weeks sound ?). The Passat is a terrific car as it is...if only it had Honda / Toyota reliability. |

...and it has the wheel / tire pkg from the 3.6 car, and these fill the wheel wells much better than the stock 2.0t size. |

Just got an 07 Passat 2.0T (w/7000 kms on it) as a loaner while my car is in for service. I actually had high hopes for it since I like its styling, but not impressed at all. First off it died twice in stop and go traffic. Luckily it started each time, but WTH?
The interior is so cheap feeling. They have really dropped the ball. The quality of the plastics are sub-par, especially for VW. The lower dash and upper doors are hard to the touch. There is also alot of creeking and ratting in the dash assembly and doors. The ride is okay, somewhat floaty with vague steering, but too harsh on expansion joints and the like.
