Hi all,

 Thank you all for your posts, but I was referring to the original story here at Canadian Driver, I know you all would love to pit your rides against one another, and perhaps we could do that sometime, seeing how many of us would be able to rent shannonville or something for the day maybe. (Remember this may void your auto insurance!) But I was talking to this story here, for those who didn't see it, please read it, I think it was one of the best reviews, as did many of my friends. We're all 20 somethings and all interested in these fuel efficent cars. But as some of you have mentioned maybe we may need a jerry can or something with the additional fuel to hit them up to that 50 litre limit.

Judging by the article, 50l is too much and for the Fit and Yaris it would mean carrying nearly 2 gallons of fuel in the trunk.  Maybe a 25 litre run or even less. However most modern FI cars really dont want to be drained right out as they will run very lean for a bit before dying

A thought: all the cars have OBDII.  Does that scanner that one can buy for cars that plugs in to the OBDII port display fuel consumption as part of OBDII?  If so then  a CTC barbie and each doing 10 laps of somewhere would get the required answers.

Later:   ScanGauge. Claims to be able to display fuel rate for any OBDII vehicle  so that answers my question.

Can't trust those computers, odometer being off changes that.  And I've seen those computers say you have 0km left on the tank and it's still running.

If you do this test, you must included what I think would be the winner...the SMART......

IIRC, one of the reasons 50L was chosen was because most of the cars in the competition had ~50L tanks.  Choosing 25L would require a very complicated (and scientifically inaccurate) method of getting the same amount in each tank.

Last time, they used the EPA estimates and drove X kilometers to burn the little bit of extra fuel...  but burning 25L of fuel that way would be wasteful and inaccurate at best.

40L might work...

But I think having a support car following with some jerry cans and repeating the 50L challenge would be best.  That would allow for straight comparison with the old models, too.
