New 50 Liter Challenge - Anyone Interested???
« on: March 02, 2007, 04:17:44 pm »
I'm writing to inquire how many people would be interested in a new 50 liter Challenge shootout, like the previous one that was done by Canadian Driver, but with the newer cars/hatchs:

Nissan Versa
Toyota Yaris
Suzuki SX4
Hyundai Elantra / Accent Hatch
VW Rabbit
Dodge Caliber
Honda Fit
Mazda 3 Sport
Chevrolet HHR

Just feeling for reactions,

 Thanks to all who reply,

Cozmos

Who would be putting this on, and where?

Or are you stating you would like to see a rematch with these vehicles done by someone else?

The biggest obstacle to doing that again is logistics. That was a 15-or-so hour day for us, and after all that, two of the damn cars were still running. It also takes a lot of work to wrangle all those cars to have them available at the same time in the same place, not to mention doing so on a day when there are enough drivers available.

That said, it would be nifty to do it again, especially, as alluded to, many of the cars we used in the first one have been redesigned and there are a few brand new cars, too. We have been talking about it, but not sure when it might happen.
Buy this car to drive to work; Drive to work to pay for this car.

I think its a great idea and hope you can pull it off.  If you can't get enough of the cars maybe change it to a CTC 500km challenge as I'm sure some of us would gladly participate in that.  Besides, it would make for a fun CTC get together.

A CTC 50 litre challenge.  Plot where everyone lives, determine a central point to meet and eat, allow 50 litre for a round trip and see who doesn't make it home... :rofl2:

Just make it a 5 liter challenge. Then everyone can get home before lunch. :)

I would go for that if it was set-up again, with enough advanced knowledge so I could plan to free my week-end/day.

In the Top Gear vid, they said the Veyron will burn through its gas tank in 12 minutes at 407 km/h.

That's the size of my Civic's tank.  Who will be supplying the vehicles and pizza?

Some of the cars in that list may have trouble in your challenge, because they have less than 50 liter tanks.
The Fit has a 41 liter tank and i think the Yaris is similar.

Either way, we tried to do it this past summer, but things just got busy and we were unable to get it done.  Maybe this year.

I'd like to see how that Bluey Mercedes E class diesel does - say compared to the gasoline V6.
