This is a catch-up vehicle for Mitsubishi.  They're not showing Mazda/Honda/Subaru anything new except for the CVT (Caliber-ish?).  Like the previous Lancer, I think that Subaru only needs to worry about the Evo.  There's also a lot of "mystery" around the 2008 Imprezas so we'll see how things go down in 2008.

Ralliart, rumor has it in mid '08, will go head to head w/WRX.  My guess is it will be $6-8,000 cheaper, base model comparisons.

Did you factor in the fact that all Imprezas are AWD?

This car will sell like hotcakes.

The $21700 GTS version is incredible value. If it drives like it has a bit of character to it, it will offer more robust features at the same price as a Mazda 3, and both more robust features AND more fun than a Civic / Corolla / Sentra.

5 year Warranty, too.

This is going to sell pretty well solely based on its looks--especially when compared to cars like the oddly-proportioned Civic and the cheap-looking 2008 Focus.  It's substantial feeling won't hurt either.

They need to improve the fuel economy of the base model, though, which is uncompetitive with just about everything but the Rabbit/Jetta 2.5.

Its measured on the 2008MY standard, which means everyone is going to take a hit. Still, if I remember correctly its a pretty big gap between this and a Civic, but on the other hand this has a lot more punch to it and a CVT (probably helps a lot on the highway when you're doing 125+ compared to a 5speed auto).
