02 Montana Central Locking System
« on: February 26, 2007, 10:02:15 am »
My Dad's Montana is giving him problems with locking.  The central locking system will engage with the key in the door (All doors will lock or unlock), you can unlock all the doors with the switches on the inside (Both passenger and driver switches), BUT for some reason, neither switch will engage the system when you push either to lock the doors.  If the door is open, and you press the lock switch, normally the system will chime 3 times and you close the doors, and they'll lock about 1 or 2 seconds afterwards.  This doesn't happen either.

Does anyone have any suggestions what this could be?

1) ask a Montana forum

2)ask a service desk at the dealer?

3) and not the Canadian way ; read the manual,  ;D as there are so many ways for the locks to work if you press the buttons the right way

I would suggest the actuator in the drivers door is getting dirty and needs to be relubed or the cold has left a layer of moisture on it as well. I believe the problem is in the drivers door or in the switch you push to activate the mech inside.  :)

Thanks Barrie.  I sprayed some WD40 in the switch the other day but haven't had the chance to talk to Dad to see if it is working or not.

Please be careful useing the WD40 as you don't want to get it on you at all or breathe the fumes either. Never leaves your body and over time is not very good for you at all.  :)
