Dent's gone rotary (again) - 1985 Mazda Rx-7 GSL
« on: February 24, 2007, 10:47:58 am »

I just picked this car up - its 1985 Mazda Rx-7 GSL with the 12A engine, 5spd gearbox, lsd rear end and four wheel disc brakes. Interior needs some cleaning. Aftermarket exhaust is reasonably loud and a light flywheel (I'd rather have the stock one since this is my commuter car but whatever).

Wow, yet another one. You certainly have a thing for uncommon vehicles.

That is some pretty glossy paint for an '85. Nice find.

I ended up passing on the MR2. This was much, much cheaper. Its only really a commuter car. I might pick up a Miata in the states at a later date.

Wow! Nice looking car. I'm sure it'll be loads of fun.

What's the history? Only summer driven, or maybe imported from Arizona or the coast? It obviously hasn't seen 22 Alberta winters.

No idea about the history. Its got 192k kms on it so not an American car and its been driven a reasonable amount. Alberta winters aren't as hard on bodies as they are on windshields (traditionally more gravel than salt but that is changing). There is one little bit of rust on the rear fender by the exhaust.

Looks to be in nice condition and should only go up in value as it ages now. The Chevy V8 does fit in there as a friend has one with it.  :)

Wow, fun commuter car.  But won't the lack of power steering get tiring on a commute.  Drove me nuts the one time I drove one - really heavy.  Great on the track/highway, but would kill me on urban streets.

Looks like a beaut.  Cheers!

The lack of power steering won't kill me - the light clutch just might - very touchy.

Barrie - I hate to say it but a small block Ford V8 fits in even nicer. In the end it will likely stay rotary.

More then double the cost to put a Ford into it and only half of the pony power as well. Thats why the Chevies are so popular transplanted into these smaller cars. They have been dropping Chevies into doz's of makes for years as they are also the easiest to do if you have any experience doing it.  :)

Mocking up the GTX wheel - looks decent enough and has some nice rubber on it.

Now why would you go and ruin a perfectly good RX-7 like that...
