It is a good habit to get into checking tire pressure and oil levels once a week
You only add oil if you need to
First oil change mmmm, there can to a 1000 different ideas on that
if it is dino oil I go , the first at two at 2500km then 5000 after that

Tire pressures monthly preferably with your own gauge.  In the fall /winter you will need to add air as the temp drops, in spring maybe not.

Oil.  I check a new car weekly until I see that how much it uses...some use oil for a few '000 km until broken in and some don't

I check the coolant level once a month or so especially in the summer

Check the oil a day after the oil is changed at a garage to make sure they re-filled it with enough oil (happened to me), or they didn't tightened the oil pan bolt & oil filter enough (didn't happen to me, but have heard it too many times).  This can prevent you costly repairs and/or warranty haggling.

You could check them every time or every other time you gas up.  My last oil change the drain plug didn't get properly tightened so I was dripping oil on my driveway.

All good advice so far so I will add my suggestion as well Check your tires weekly and your oil everytime you fuel up for the 1st 10,000Klms. After that I would think about every 2 weeks on the oil check but do watch your tire pressures as they will last a lot longer if you do. This will save you money on the 1st big purchase on the vehicle in a year or 2 if you do as they will still be usable. For some strange reason Factory tires never seem to last as long as the replacement tires do so be-aware of this fact. If you intend to keep this vehicle for a long time then all you are doing is paying yourself back by being on top of these matters. As far as the 1st oil change goes what does the owners manuel say on your make and model and do it a bit earlier then they recommend is my suggestion. Useing good oil and changing it on a reg basis will keep your car Happy for a long time.  :)

Definitely check the tire pressure regularly (weekly) for a few weeks to make sure there are no slow leaks. In my 27 years of driving, I have 2 new cars that have air leaks , a Chevy Cavalier and a Toyota Tercel. Both blow out happened while I was driving. Pretty scary stuff and you don't want to experience it.

I know odds are low that tire leaks air but it does happen.

Tires with aluminum rims in winter need regular checks -  especially winter temp changes.

I have had more problems with the steel rims as they rust where the Aluminum wheels do not to the extent that the steelies due around the edges. I have 2 vehicles right now with the Aluminum and Billet type of wheels and they have both been fine so far. The steelies on one car I get ground every year.  :)
