Leasing 07 Honda DX-G $305 a month
« on: February 08, 2007, 12:28:22 pm »
I am looking at a 07 Honda DX-G automatic with protection package.  I told the sales person I am not into any head games or sales tatics and if you are to leave me unattended for more than 5 minutes I am walking.

After some chit chat the sales person offered me a lease rate for 305 a month including all taxes with 2000 down and 24K a year.  Lease is for 48 months

I am wondering if I hammered out the best price possible price as I am looking to purchase the car within the next 2 weeks.  Other dealers in the area want 370-375 with 0 down according the the newpaper ads.  To make sure nothing changes price wise when I come back, I asked for a copy of all the fugures.

Is that for 48 months?  60 months?

Residual?  Interest rate?

Lease is 48 months, interested is 4.8% and residual is approx 9800.  I was surprised that a Fit LX cost more to lease. The Fit was a higher interest rate and crappy residual.

I find many dealers do this "especially Ford" they keep saying they are going back to speak to the manager and leave you unattended for 15-30 minutes each time and they repeat the process 2-3 times.

Oh I know what you meant. I just thought that line sounded like a desperate personals ad.

"Unattached car buyer looking for an honest salesman that won't leave me unattended and won't use any sales tactics. No head games please."

What's the "protection package"?  Price the same thing on Honda's website and you end up with roughly the same price ($292 including tax without the protection package).  I'm guessing that package is 5 or 6 hundred bucks?  So essentially he offered you MSRP.  You can probably still do better.

From Honda.ca:

DX-G, manual, no options:

4.9%, 48 months, 2K down (3100 due on delivery), $9132 residual = 292/month including tax.

Again, adding $13/month to get to $305 probably works out to that protection package being about $700.

I did the math too and residual shouldn't be that high? Putting 2 grand down makes a big diff in payment.

O down would amount to around 340-350.   Depends what this "protection package" is.(sounds like a big profit-maker for dealer).

You may be able to do a bit better but not much.  New Civics are hard to bargain on.  If you knock off 800 on the price as this seems the most people seem to be getting, figure on  15-20 bucks a month less.

I have due on signing 2454 of which 2000 is the down payment and 454 is the first month payment plus applicable taxes. Forgot to mention I was going with an automatic.

My mistake. :-[

So, is the protection package rustproofing or 3M fabric protection or the like?

Well, you're basically getting the "protection package" for free, and paying full MSRP.

I'd rather take the $800 off than get that "package."

Put $1,200 down, and offer $305 a month and see what the salesperson has to say.

That protection package is the way for the dealer to get back allllllllllllll the money he lowered off the MSRP for you.

The mark-up for those things is like 1000%. Skip it. You'll see he'll be less willing to knock as much off as he originally did if you don't take it.

Protection package? Are you planning on keeping this car or is the protection package for the next owner?

You can probably do better on the pricing... If you're patient new deals come up every month (or almost every month). Then you won't have to play head games or anything you can just take the deal.

I would suggest going back to Honda with a price in mind. They'll either match it or make a counter offer. It's not head games, it's negotiating.

I used to be in sales (not cars) and would hate it when customers would say, "I don't want to haggle I just want the best price." I would reply, "What do you think is a fair price?" A lot of times customers would have no idea. If you don't know what you think is a fair price then how am I supposed to know.

Nice car though. I also know that Honda is often willing to take your lease back and roll you into a newer car down the road. So as your needs change, you won't feel stuck with the car you have.
