~Video~ 2007 911 Turbo vs Zo6
« on: February 07, 2007, 12:58:40 pm »
As always, the Corvette driver is a bit of a redneck, but this is a great video to see how these cars stack up in a straight line. Just thought I'd share, it's a cool video.

The only bad part of the video was when he opened his mouth..."hun-ert 'n fify thousandollar car"

In canada:

Porsche Turbo: $170,700
Corvette Z06: $90,485

And the Corvette is still faster?  For the price difference of $80,215 think of what kind of modifications you can get for the Z06 to make it even faster!  Twin-Turbo maybe? http://lingenfelter.com/LingenfelterC6ZO6427CIDTwinTurboCorvette.htm

I saw a yellow 2007 Porsche Turbo last week.  I was walking my dog and the car pulled out of a parking lot and when he came over the incline of the entrance to get on the road all I heard was the front scrape the pavement.  Ouch!  Thing is, it had Ontario plates.  I saw it in Vancouver.  So did the guy drive it across the country in January??  Maybe he towed it across the country in a trailer.  Awesome car though.

If I had a 21st century AWD supercar that could get spanked around by something costing half as much, RWD, using leaf springs and 50 years old V8 design, I'd have to sell it.

I never use videos from the net to gauge the performance of cars....to many variables involved.

About the Porsche:

"By 60 mph, that lost time is made up and the Tiptronic matches the manual car's 3.4-second blast. From there, it continues to gain ground and edges out the manual in the quarter-mile by a scant 0.1 second—11.6 seconds at 122 mph versus 11.7 at 121—and it stays ahead the rest of the way, hitting 160 mph in 22.1 seconds versus 23.8. In case you're wondering, that quarter-mile time is better than the quickest 505-hp Corvette Z06 we've tested."

http://www.bullz-eye.com/cars/reviews/2007/2007_porsche_911_turbo_tiptronic.htm

I'm sure these two cars are so close it comes down to driver skill....oh ya and money.

A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

Oh sure, no videos from the net but stuff from a site called bullz-eye is ok?  ;D (I know it's a car and driver article)...

I don't care either way, just like seeing cars that offer good value for the money...

I wonder how both would perform on the track where handling is actually an issue and not just straight line performance.

Vman, you'll be pleased to see the March issue of Car and Driver (if you haven't already).  Porsche GT3, Exige S and Z06 battle on the track.  Guess which one wins (but only because of the $$$)?

:iagree:  Straight line performance doesn't mean much ... put a few bends in there and you'll see where that extra 80 000$ went.  Don't get me wrong ... I love the "affordability vs. performance"  of the Z06 but it's far from Porsche's quality.  :P

A Z06 is no slouch in the corners, but fit and finish, design, engineering, panache, and overall performance all play a role in the pricing.  You sell at what the market will bear.

Not only that, but having now watched the video, two cars that closely matched would NOT allow the Vette to pass it so easily.  Either a) it's all a set up, b) the driver of the Porsche needs to work on his skills a little more (which wouldn't surprise me since I'd bet he didn't even know he had his rear fog light on).

Nurburging lap times.

Multiple flavours of Porsche 911 and Z06.

I don't know enough to compare the right ones. Check for yourself.

See the September 2006 Car and Driver (http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/11326/2006-chevrolet-corvette-z06-vs-2006-ferrari-f430-vs-2007-porsche-911-turbo.html)

The Corvette takes both the 911 Turbo and the Ferrari F430 on the track...the F430 by 4 seconds, the 911 Turbo by 3 seconds.  Sure the Corvette placed last because of interior quality, crappy seats, and a scary ride at the limit...but when you can take cars that cost 2-3 times a much...that says a lot about the Z06.

G0dspd, straight line performance means a whole lot!  Just look at the track times and commentary.  Sure, the 911 may catch up a little in the corners, but the Z06 gains it all back and more in the straights.

Obviously most of us would post a better track time in the 911.  What's your point?

If I had the money I'd definitely take the 911 or Ferrari because I don't care about a 2-5 second difference around the track or to 60 or 1/4 mile...

...but...when a car that costs as little (in comparison) as the Vette and still keeps up AND BEATS some of the best exotics in the world...how can you not respect that?

I think the new Z-06 is a spiritual cousin of the original 911 turbo.  The original car was scary fast thanks to a whack of HP being dropped into a "normal performance" car.  It was pretty good bang/buck, besting Italian rockets at mucho less dinero.  It was kinda civilized, but not really.  The new 911 has way more comfort, better finishing, tons more gadgets, etc.  The Z-06 is much more raw, takes skill to drive, and is all about melding your belt buckle with your spine.  Jet back to 1976 and the 930 was the same.
No place I'd rather be...

I hate to say it, as I love Porsche, but on a track, all things being even, I think my money would be on the Z06. The 997 Turbo is not a track car, it is a GT which can handle well. While the Z06 is a track car. That being said, wait for the GT-2's debut, that thing will most likely spank anything this side of a C-GT on a track.

As far as straight line performance, again all things being even, I think the numbers favour a Triptronic equiped 997 Turbo (0-100 of 3.4s on over boost) over a C6 Z06 (0-96 in 3.7s), while a manual 997 Turbo gets the same 0-100 as the Z06.

A GT2 or a GT3 is more track oriented....the 911 Turbo is just a big dog with all the gizmos Porsche has to offer.  A halo car this side of the Carrera GT.

I'm a Porsche guy....could not care less about performance numbers and a tenth here and a tenth there.

If GM could sell their Corvette Z06 for $150k, I'm sure they would.

I've said it so many times, Europeans don't do bang for buck.
