I used this service way back on my CRV purchase.  Deal was pretty much maxed out but they still knocked off an extra 100 bucks off.  So the extra questioning paid the fee.  And I knew what was the minimum profit they were looking for (which was the best deal between 2 dealers).

For my Accord purchase, well, I found pricing info, er, elsewhere.... ::)

Quote
I wasn't "fishing" for the best price I could get, I was ready to buy the car. I wouldn't go and tell that price to another dealer and ask if he can beat it, etc. I told him I wouldn't, and I didn't. He knew if he reached my price and treated me well for 45 minutes, he'd get the deal.

Well, that's the difference isn't it? I'd estimate 1 in every 200 shoppers that ask, "what's the best price?" also add that they are prepared to buy right now.

I agree.

If I was the salesman, I don't think I'd be too happy spending a lot of time with a potential client, only to find out: (a) nah, he wasn't serious, or worse, (b) he went somewhere else and gave the commission to the other guy who spends squat time with him, but offers him 100 bucks lower.

Until I've decided, I'm not going to start negociating. And, if they spent time with me before (e.g. test drive), and they were professional, polite, respectful, they're first on my list to go back to when I've made up my mind.

I hate sound like a broke record, but why are the US invoice pricing free on the net, but the Canadian prices we have to pay
How do CCC and APA get the Canadian invoice pricing?

Air, my understanding is that they work with certain dealers who will give them this information. In return for this information, clients are referred their way if they'd like to purchase at the set mark-up, no hassle. A client doesn't have to purchase there though, it's up to him.

Re: CCC, I don't know exactly what their source of information is but it is not through a reciprocal arrangement with dealers. They solicit dealers to work with them. The deal is, "pay us a monthly fee and we'll send you the leads we get for your brand in your area. We don't care what sort of pricing you use as long as it is consistent." Invoice pricing and vehicle equipment can change many times throughout a model year and my experience was that CCC was often providing incorrect, out-dated information.

Oops, right, I forgot to specify. I'm talking about what I understand of the APA process; I don't know how CCC works. Thanks for the clarification Cord.

Well, since its the beginning of February, we are gonna wait till the last week of the month - higher chances of getting a good discount. Does anyone know a good Toyota dealer within Southwestern Ontario?
I don't know why my dad won't get a price quote from APA... I can't convince him. How does it work? You fill out the online form, click submit... whats after that? I might do it myself!  ;)

We are also thinking about keeping the Accord, for me (I am 17, turning 18 this June). We know its a good car, and it would be a great first car for me. Hmm...

The best.  :)   But you gotta buy this Hybrid where you intend on getting it fixed under warranty.

Assuming you have two parents, both licensed, acquring a third family vehicle will cost somebody an extra $400. per month; (male 18 years)

What do you mean? Why do we need to purchase the vehicle where we are going to get it serviced under warranty?  ??? We service our Odyssey in London, even though we bought it in Stratford.

And yes, you are correct about the insurance costs. We are thinking of insuring the Accord with a different company (I won't be driving it EVERYDAY to school...) so I would be an occasional/secondary driver.

Sure, what dealership is it?

Have you had any major issues?  I suspect not.  Hybrid warranty is to 160,000 km. Expect issues.  If someone buys out of town to save a few bucks and brings their car in for warranty and it is one of those difficult diagnosing problems that is not covered by the manufacturer why should the dealer suck it up for a money grubbing customer.

They don't.   :)

so I would be an occasional/secondary driver.

If it were only that simple.  ::)  All insurance companies linked to central data base.  Doesn't matter whose name it is in, you will be deemed primary.  Expect $400 per month for the basics.  If you have 2 grandparents with one car you can put the car in their name.  However, if you get in an at fault accident they will pay every cent out of their pocket and all legal fees.  In other words they'll lose their house.  :P

I was just wondering on what dealerships were "good" in terms of Customer service. We know for sure that we aren't returning to that shi++y dealership, that treated us like animals. Theres another dealership here that has treated us right.  :)

About the insurance: my dad will call and ask about it on Monday. Its just that we are getting killed on resale value because of the "collision" title on our Accord. We might as well keep it, since we KNOW its a good car. It would be a great first car for me... :-\ Overall, its a 2001 with only 61,000 kms on it!!

$8500 trade in value for an 2001 Accord with 61k? Not worth it at all.
