starting an 06 sonata
« on: January 24, 2007, 09:14:32 pm »
I was looking at buying an 06 Sonata today from a used lot and the sales guy couldn't get the car to start.   It sounded like the battery was dead, he tried boosting it but the same thing the sound of a solenoid clicking without the engine turning over.  Another sales guy came out and fooled with the locks and the car turned over and started, he said that this was a security feature.  Is this true?  Does the Sonata have programming that does not allow it to turn over if the unlock function is not operated first? The car had been sitting in the lot unlocked.
I am seriously considering this car as it was nice once it was running but I am concerned about the initial no start,  so I need to know if these sales guys are full of it or just not aware.

I would suggest calling a New Sonata Dealership and asking the Service Manager this question as then you will have the correct and full answer you need.  :)

Sounds more like an aftermarket security system has been added to this car.

That would be easy enough to check as it possibly will have the connection box under the hood in a easy to get at location to be installed. You will see it easily if it has this device added. These are a very nice well built car that is starting to get some excellent ratings on them for long life and service.  :)
