No.

My understanding of the Chinese market is that it’s not very sophisticated and that Chinese consumers don't want to pay for quality. They just don't see value in it. If no one is willing to pay for quality, I doubt manufacturers are too concerned about it, either. So I don’t think manufacturers have any motivation to manufacture quality cars, only cheap ones. Entry into the U.S. market at the lowest price poiints won't change anything.

I’d rather pay a bit more for a quality car.  8)

We are not talking about the Chinese market, but a Canadian/N.A. market.

Damn :banghead: do YOU LOT really think they are gonna send a "stinker" over to N America as there 1st Effort???..............well I have news fer U......I'd hazard a guess that it may well be a loss leader fer THEM  but a Bargoon fer US....they are NOT STUPID......"PONY" UP U lot when ya lose yer BETS.......lets' see thats 4 Trillion Yuan..tan a Meraaah....fack I'm RICH!!!!   >:D  :skid: :lick: :inlove: :pimp: :bounce: :bounce: :eye:

Saf is right (  :o   :o  ) they will send over cars they think are suited for our market, not the stuff they will be pouring out of their factories for the Chinese masses.  Will remain to be seen if they understand our market well enough to compete.

Well, products made in China are of differing quality, depending on the target market.

Lets see how they do with cars. Koreans leapfrogged the Japanese and are haunting them.

Hmm, I'm not sure that this is correct.  GM and VW are the top selling brands in China.  I daresay that this is partly because the Chinese consumer perchieves these as being higher quality brands than the home-grown offerings...  The Chinese are highly brand and image aware.

No.

Repressive government
Poor working conditions
Disregard of other's intellectual property
Expectation of poor quality

I try, when possible, to not buy Chinese made goods, and will continue to do the same.

The argument that VW is not a "quality" brand is just not true, unless you consider "quality" based solely on reliability.  The fact is, VW competes more with Acura and Volvo than Honda and Toyota anymore.  VWs are fancy vehicles, not the ultra-spartan transportation appliances you would expect in a Communist country.

As for GM, I know both Buick and Cadillac have Chinese-market cars that are as nice or nicer than their North-American counterparts (Cadillac SLS, Buick Royaum).  According to Wikipedia, Buick is China's best-selling automaker, with a lineup that includes the aging-but-affordable Regal, the LaCrosse (Allure), and the Royaum (aka Holden Statesman from Australia).

With the advent of green politics I can see heavy lobbying by environmental groups and labour unions for imposing greening taxes on cheap Chinese imports that are manufactured with no regards for the environment.  ??? Strange bedfellows indeed.
