I love the 993...thought about making an offer but anything I could put forth would probably be too low.   :'(

The slantnose does nothing for me.  Give me the bug eyes.   :o

Odds are the MDX stays but I may have to go look at the LR3 and the minivans.  The Q7 is nice but a bit expensive when you want the big engine.  The X5 is also pretty pricey.  I like the CX7 but my wife doesn't think it looks that good.  Plus it may be a bit smaller than what we have now.  I also like the Mazda5.  Saw one in that seafoam green....not the most flattering colour but the shape was nice.

You could buy the Mazda5 and call it a wash, perhaps make something, no?

May not be satisfied by the power if you're used to it though.

Think the Jackson Racing supercharger will bolt up to the Mazda5?  ;)

What we recommend is of little importance. Get what your wife wants and use it against her later when it is your turn. :)

I like the looks of the new LR3, and if quality has improved as Saffy suggests, then it could be worth looking into.

However if it were me, as the question in the title of this thread suggests, I'd get a nice sporty wagon such as a V70R, possibly a CPO 5-series wagon like Scareo said.

For me, the front runner is to keep the MDX....but I was looking to see if anybody had good quality experiences with any of the options I listed.  I'm willing to consider any vehicle, as long as we like it.

Other short listed vehicles:

Mazda CX7
Mercedes M class
BMW X3

I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of space, but not a lot as we end up using most of what the MDX has to offer right now.  The Volvo is out....doesn't matter if it's free.  Fackin' asshats.

Tough one but I chose the Sienna.  After all, it is just look into.  And the Sienna is much more a family hauler, and available with AWD.

Other choice is to keep the beast you have.

We have a SUV and the Sienna and the van wins hands down for family outings: more comfort, more room, better handling, better economy.  The kids like it better with the big windows.  Of course our Pathfinder is not like your MDX but still.......

Good luck in your search, it will not be easy   ;D

If you're willing to give up a bit of space, then the RDX should be worth a look.

There will be A LOT of very nice options in the $35 - 50 segment over the next 2 years, many from luxury brands. Hang tight and save some money.

But discussing choices over the next 2 years if you decide to do that would be fun too  ;D

I would scratch OFF that short list above ...  :) As much as I love our CX-7, can't recommend it to you.  :) Not enuff luxury and everything else realted to that, it is just a plain Jane Mazda after all. Besides, your Mrs. no like the looks of it.

X3 ... great vehicle, but too pricey to get the 3.0L and real leather and 2222 small, both in physical dimensions and "status'.  :) As dirty cheap as the E46s on the street nowadays.

Never like the M class from day one. Although 2 friends here in Red Deer have/had them tho. the top of the line 600 numbers, all less than one year before they ditched them.

The New MDX looks great, but the AWD is more for SHow, rather than real Canadian winters ... from reviews now, that setup needs serious convincing for ice and snow.

Q3 and LR3 deserve serious considerations, ...  IMO and your pocket book status.  :) Anything else just won't measure up. Maybe the Porsche SUV thing.  8) ;D

Not concerned with image.  I need a vehicle that has:

Required
utility (space and efficent at that)
safety (the more goodies, the better)
HID's

Nice to haves
AWD is a nice to have
power liftgate
keyless ignition

Snowy, I could care less about the asshat manager that I dealt with, but the response from Volvo Canada has turned me away from the brand.  Like I said, they build great cars, I'll pay more to go elsewhere.

Mini van is about all that will meet the "required", especially on the utility issue.

Comon' ... get a vehicle that shows the Rebel that you REALLY are!  :)

I agree, keep the MDX, but buy the Porsche.

They'll be more and better options in a couple/few years for SUVs/cross-overs.

I picked other and would go with a new RDX if it'd be big enough to haul the family.  Either that or a Murano or CX-7.
