... Sonata is a mid-size car, more comfort, better as a highway cruiser.

In fact, I believe its interior size earns it an EPA "large car" rating!   :o

Accord/Camry should be in the same class then. On EPA's fuel economy website they're listed under Family Sedans, not Large Sedans.

Hmm... perhaps I'm mistaken and it wasn't "EPA" then... it wasn't fuel-economy related but interior volume that the "large car" rating was applied.

The poster is 22 years old and presumably single.  Save the Sonata purchase for when your 42.  Don't rush old age.  :)

Something tells me a single 22 year old will find insurance rates better on a Sonota than any type of Civic but I'm guessing.

I don't think you can compare a Civic to a Sonata. Different vehicle class.

Moreover, one costs almost 30% more than the other!  That's a significant price gap.

Good luck with your decision.

:)

Depends on your definiton of "costs"

Civic EX Auto in ontario
Term 60 Months
Rate 4.9

Payment 534.39

Total 32063

SONATA GLS V6 Premium in Ontario
Term 60 Months
Rate 2.9%
Payment 549.2
Total 32952

The actual difference in $ over 5 years is about 3% NOT 30

This is allcalculated at MSRP. I think you'll find Hyundai will deal at least a little (at least more than Honda). Its not unreasonable to think that you might be able to get both cars for the same $ outlay over 5 years with a little negotating.

I don't want to get into the whole resifual , maintanence thing.

$ for $ its not unreasonable to cross shop the cars at all. What amtters to many people is how much $ comes out of their bank account each month in relation to what they drive. The $s are essentially the same. You just have to weigh which car's features and pluses outweigh the other car's features and pluses.

Focusing on the MSRP is decieving in this case.

Yes, indeed.

I never meant to say that one will cost a lot more than the other per month.

Just saying that the MSRP is different by a whopping 30%.  Basically agreeing with what "2hondas" said that these vehicles are in totally different class.

Again, both of these vehicles can be had for similar amount of money per month, if you're financing it over a long-time.  I even said that in my very first post.

Moreover, Sonata will probably be a bit cheaper to insure, and may even costs less to maintain.  Honda dealers are notorious for over-charging their customers by doing all sorts of simple "inspections."

Few questions you may need to ask yourself: Do you give a lot of rides to other people?  Do you carry a lot of cargo?

Good luck!

I've called about civic quotes before and from what i was told, as long as you don't get the Si-R, the rates are very reasonable.

Depends on the province and company. The plain jane Civic I had cost more in insurance then the Mustang V8 that replaced it (same coverage, same city, etc).

I can drive that much per week or more.

I briefly had a Civic. (06 Coupe; slightly firmer suspension than the 06-07 sedans) The highway ride in GTA area is not one of its greatest strengths (i.e. you feel lots of bumps...)

How do you like driving the Sonata?

I much prefer driving my TSX than our super-duper comfy Camry over all those km because it's fun to drive, even if the ride is firmer.

I say, go with the Sonata if:

- you like the handling/ drive
- it's more comfortable

Spend a little of time in Hyundai forums and you'll find that the Sonata is not all rosy either.  Nissan had a bad luck with a series of the 2.5 engine, not all of them, the 07 has a revised 2.5 and is very smooth.  I for one would not be swayed from buying, I have an X-Trail with the 2.5, very frugal on gas and completely troublefree. I find interesting that you are cross shopping a full size sedan against a compact, a better car than the Sonata would be the Honda Accord.

Really? News to me. Prove it.

In fairness, you spend time on any forum and people will complain about their cars.  The difference is looking at the Sonata threads where they're maybe complaining about the odd rattle or funny smell or something, versus other forums for other brands where they're complaining about catastrophic engine failures, wheels falling off, or transmissions letting go.  ;)

I too am curious about the problems people are reportedly having with Sonatas.  Everything I've heard and seen is been very favourable.
