I'm really surprised Aura beat-out the Camry. I would have voted Camry myself.

Good for GM tho!

Kudos for GM.  The Aura is very nice in most areas with only a few little things that people complained about. Still it's miles ahead of the old 100 effort and it would be at the top of my list over the Altima if I were looking.

As for the truck - not warming up to that Chevy front grille at all and prefer the GMC front but from all reports both are vast improvements over previous models.

Still don't quite agree that the Mazda CX-7 should have been there though - kinda a stretch to consider it truck like.

I love the Altima, but can't help noticing an Aura when I see one.  It is a very sharp looking car, if the Aura shifts better than the Camry and we all know Saturn dealers give good service, then I would be tempted.  Good on GM for coming up with a winner!

That's the clincher for me. The Saturn dealers have such a good rep for sales and service satisfaction and from friend's positive experiences, if the car is reliable and competitive I really wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone shopping a family/mid-sized sedan.

:iagree: Hope GM pays attention to our comments and their woes may end!  The reason I drive imports is because of how they take care of me, after 127,000km on my X-Trail and 193,000km on my Echo they are the the best vehicles I have ever owned, period!!

What are these NA auto writers, 90% American, going to do.  ???  Give Camry another boost when 07 sales in the US alone are headed to 450,000 units.  :o

The winners were picked by a group of 49 full-time automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada. Finalists had to be new or substantially redesigned from the previous model to be eligible to win the award, which has been granted at the show for 14 years.

The Aura beat two other finalists in the balloting for North American Car of the Year, the Honda Fit and Toyota Camry

The truck of the year was a no surprise. I would have picked the Camry but the Aura was a contender in my books. Being a North American Auto Show I was not surprised, but it not like an American entry would be even permitted to enter a show in Asia….or even allowed to be sold there.

Unfortunately they are still the sum of the GM parts bin which is based on the lowest common denominator.  It didn't matter so much when cars were fairly simple and spacious.  Can you image the cost of digging out a heater core in a CTS. :o

You hit it on the nose simplemind, the Aura is one of the nicest GM product in a long time, they deserve to win.  Also nice to see a GM pickup do well.  All this doesn't suddenly make me a GM loyal, but when credit is due then it is.

GM's product plans coming to fruition? Opel injection into Saturn should produce more results for GM.

I'd vote for the Camry because I have one.  ;D

Winners of these COTY awards mean little to me, as they only compare new models and not the others out there.  Nonetheless, nice to see GM get some recognition for the work they have been doing to try and turn around the company's future.

The real test is to see how well it fares in the consumer's eyes and how many roll off the showroom floors into homes/garages....and not to fleet sales.
