Hi, I live in Calgary AB, but I just bought an 07 MDX from a dealership in Edmonton AB. There are two Acura dealerships in Calgary. After telling me that "All MDXs sold in Western Canada are sold at MSRP." and "If you are expecting to get a grand off of MSRP, it will never happen in Western Canada." one dealership offered me a 3-digit discount and then assured me that I'd be back. I checked with the other Acura dealership's sales manager, who told me to purchase an MDX from the other guys because I test drove with them and because, once again, "All MDXs sold in Western Canada are sold at MSRP." Both dealerships told me that if I didn't buy it, someone else would.
It appeared to me that the Acura dealerships in Calgary had some type on "no competition" arrangement between them.
The next day, I called a dealership in Edmonton and spoke with the sales manager. I didn't share any of the quotes from the other dealerships, and he didn't seem to be interested in them. He simply asked what I'd pay. Thinking that I'd never get a grand off of MSRP, that's what I offered. My offer was immediately accepted. Dooh! I should have gone lower, but I honoured my offer. It turned out that I did a bit better than a grand off of MSRP because the Calgary dealerships were calculating a higher MSRP than the Edmonton dealership.
I wonder how many other cities have similar situations?
If "
"All MDXs sold in Western Canada are sold at MSRP." and "If you are expecting to get a grand off of MSRP, it will never happen in Western Canada."... last time I checked, Edmonton was in Western Canada. I hope that Edmonton hasn't moved, otherwise I'll have to drive even further to pick up my new MDX.
The Calgary Acura dealerships had better get on the phone to Edmonton and strike a deal before more Calgarians figure this out!
Hey 07MDX, congratulations on your new MDX!
I had a

experience at my local Acura dealer (I'm in Ontario), and I think it has something to do with the fact that I see looots of Acuras on my local roads with that dealership name. They seem to be successful and thus may not care so much about customer service? Is it because there are not that many Acura dealerships within a certain geographical distance??
I drove 1.5 hour away to where they told me I'd "never" find the color combination I was looking for, and I found it. Also, the 2nd dealership offered me $2000 less (if you keep the trade-in value the same) than my local dealership, where I was made to feel like a "not-rich-enough"/ "wasting the salesperson's time" type of customer for offering $1000 more than what I finally paid.
Glad you went to Edmonton.
Got any pics?
