Although not the spec.B but Legacy nonetheless, it will have HID, telescopic steering, audio controls on steering, paddle shifters on higher end models, keyless entry and ignition, plus the availability of the H6 engine.  That's for model year 2008 Legacy. Smiley

It will look a lot like this: http://www.subaru-presse.de/MY2007/Bilder/Legacy3.0R/legacy30R2007.htm

I took a drive in Detroit in the early '90s while attending the SAE congress at Cobo Hall.  I don't know if things improved over time, but back then, entire dowtown neighborhoods seemed vacant, with abandoned houses and cars (sometimes burned out).  There was even a car on its roof in the divider near the old GM HQ, and it seemed to have been there for awhile.

On the plus side, the People Mover (automated monorail) is a great way to move about in the downtown core, and Trapper's Alley is a nice shopping complex built in an old warehouse.  On the downside, when the sun goes down, armed gards appear at People Mover stations.  We were also reminded to be wary at red lights as carjackers can come out of nowhere, fast.  I also never forgot that popular tee-shirt at souvenir shops : "Detroit - Where the weak are killed and eaten !".  The famous Woodword avenue looked "Beyrouthed", with concrete blocks sitting where storefront windows used to be.

After last year's show in Detroit I looked for a place to eat. NOTHING around. Didn't look like there was any type of resto/bar/fast food within sight. Crossed over to Windsor and it's like Vegas.

I find the pricing to be bordering on incomprehensible.  Can anyone tell me what this car offers that a Mazdaspeed 6 doesn't, at thousands less?  HIDs, auto up down for all windows, smart key?  Oh, that's right, your GET those with the cheaper Mazda.  Or perhaps someone could explain why, for the same money, I might be tempted out of the absolutely fantastic Infiniti G35x??  I just don't get it at all.  Nothing wrong with the vehicle itself (though I would not find a rubbery shifter and heavy clutch endearing), but there really is no way to factor price out of the equation.

1) Real AWD system

2) safety - Legacy is one of three cars on the IIHS' fully safe list (Audi A4, Saab 9-3 and Legacy, out of hundreds of car models in that class)

3) Subaru heritage and knowledge in building AWD systems and engines to drive them.

All of points 1 through 3 apply to Subaru's lesser Legacy models and none, in my view, justify a $46k price tag.  And none would lead me to choose the Spec B over the Mazdaspeed 6 given the HUGE price differential.  I think I could live happily with Mazda's "fake" AWD system.  I expect I would find the differences imperceptible from the driver's seat.  Although with an extra 8 grand in my pocket, I admit I may be sitting a little bit lop-sided in the Mazda.

That'll help with the 'lean' when cruising.   Grin

Great review over the last week. Sad to see it end, as there isn't a lot of information available about the Spec.B. Looking forward to what others think of the car and their expiences.

Well so far, rumors from Detroit are:

No HID for MY2008.  Legacy will be available only has a sedan, wagon will not be offered unless you get the Outback.

A new 3.0R will make it's debut here (after 3 years overseas).  Basically a Spec.B with the H6 instead of the turbo H4.  Again price should be around the spec.b range so I don't see many getting sold.

Frankly, Subaru is just weird with their marketing choices.

One article I read mentions the dropping of the wagon because of "poor sales".  In Quebec, the Legacy sedan is a rare item.  It seems the wagon makes a much better pkg to Canadian eyes.  I don't see Subie Canada dropping wagons unless they're totally nuts.  Dropping the sedan would make more sense if they really have to drop a model.

From the blog...

"I averaged around 9.4L/100km, with periods of higher consumption due to gusting head winds and other sections where consumption was considerably lower. On the return trip, the average fuel mileage was 8.8L/100km, which is fairly decent."

Was this at
80kph
100kph
120kph
140kph
Can't say
Or all of the above?  It makes difference.

Personally I think Subie would be crazy to drop the wagon.  Most of the Subies I see are wagons.

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

Having ridden on the 401 with 'Grandpa Wing' before, I'm surprised he braved the 'elevated' speeds of even 120!  Wink  Must've been the other car-nuts in the vehicle with him chiding him to get the speed up to reasonable highway levels.  Cheesy

Thanks for the review Wing.  I still love the LGT... but if they wagon is killed off as others have reported and the pricing remains so outrageous, I can't see me ever owning one.  The next Impreza had better be freakin' amazing!

Dropping the WAGON?  Huh  They nuts?  How much could it cost to keep it onboard when the Outback shares many of the same body components?

Welcome back Wing.

The great majority of Subarus sold in BC are also are wagons. IMO, the sedans are OK, the wagons very good. Another case of the US dog wagging the Canada tail??  Huh Tongue

Dropping the wagon wouldn't be a good idea IMO. THe majority of Legacies down here are wagons too, with only a handful being sedans.
