Need Help: Buying a 2007 Corolla LE
« on: January 02, 2007, 02:03:27 pm »
Hi all. I'm in the process of buying a 07 Corolla LE (new, package A). I've done a fair bit of research on the prices and so far the dealership seems to hover somewhere around $25,500 (freight, tax, etc. included).

Is that a good price?

Also, anything else I should be watching out for?

Thanks for any help.

So I should tell the salesperson that 25,000 is my final offer?

Also what about rust-proofing package? Does it do anything or can I get it done somewhere else (if it's at all necessary, seeing that there's apparently no more snow in Ontario) for a cheaper price?

Last thing, if I pay cash / check would it make a difference?

Well, they might get a little miffed if you show up with $25K in bills, so I'd skip that.  Also, they won't take a personal cheque, but a certified one or bank draft will do nicely.

As for a price break for paying "cash" forget it.  The dealer makes money on their captive financing.
No place I'd rather be...

Also what about rust-proofing package?

Skip that for sure. You can find your favorite rust prevention method/vendor later at fraction of the cost.

I'm not gonna show up with 25k in bills... No way...

It'll be in pennies. That's right 25,000,000 coins stacked up on their door front.

Anyway, jokes aside, if lump sum payment doesn't warrant a price break is 25.5G a good price on a new 07 corolla LE?

[edit] After some digging in the forums I found the invoice mark up for corolla is apparently 6.86% (base on CE model for 06) which would put the invoice price of an LE at roughly $20,495. This is incidentally rather close to what the salesperson told me... Have I somehow found the invoice cost or is this all just a giant conspiracy...?

Hello neighbour  :D

I'd skip the rustproofing myself also, but outright. Vehicle protection from the elements has come a long way, and rust isn't as big of an issue so long as you look after it as one normally does.

You buying from Pickering, Whitby, or elsewhere if you don't mind my asking?

MSRP on the '07 Crayolla LE (Pkg A is just base LE equipment as far as I can see) is $21,900. Invoice is $20,223, or 7.81% (each trim and package differ). Frieght/PDI is likely around $1,140, +100 A/C tax. Corolla is getting pressured nowadays because the design is getting a little older and many models are lacking key safety features included in competitor's vehicles, but based on those numbers, looks like you're getting a good price on the car. That said, I do not know if there are any factory incentives on the Corolla for December, which is what you really need to know to judge fair pricing month-to-month. Dealers are wrapping up their year-end numbers now, so they'd be most willing to deal today, that's for sure.

The Toyota dealer was giving new snow tires on the Corolla in Cobourg
I would also shop in Bowmanville and Cobourg as they are only 45 min from Ajax
The more dealers the better

Yeah, never thought of that - Clarington Toyota may be a good bet since they're new on the block.

I despise Pickering Toyota's sales. Think service is okay (I know an advisor there) but sales has been the pitts every time I've been in. Whitby is MUCH better for both sales and service in my experience, of which I've none for Clarington.

@sirAQUAMAN64:
Thanks for the invoice quote. I'm actually not buying from Pickering nor Ajax dealers (one in Scarborough). From what I've learned on the net it seems to be better if I bought from areas with more than one dealers (that and I'm so lazy I just went to the dealer closest to where I work).

As for factory incentives... It's the new year already so... LOL Ah well wish me luck then.

Ahhh, gotcha. Scarborough Lexus Toyota or Brimell? Well, doesn't really matter I'm more curious than anything. Still, doesn't hurt to phone around. Saying "I'll buy today" might help your response!

For the auto industry, sales reporting for December hasn't happened yet (depends on how the 1st falls relative to the day of the week and holiday). So many incentives carry-over into the first days of January. Dealers are still hungry to increase their December and 2006 sales figures.

Huh... Well in that case I might've missed the dead line...

Anyway, isn't there gonna be tons of paper work and insurance stuff before I can actually get a car? If only I could just walk in, get a car, and drive out...

Speaking of which, how am I suppose to pick up the car? If I drive there, who's gonna drive my other car back?

Got a fleet of vehicles in the drive, do ya?

With some persuasion, I could be burdoned to do that favour for you  ;D   :rofl2:

Dealers have slick ways of processing paperwork for deadlines - leave it to them. Anywho, let us know what comes of it.

Only 2,500,000 pennies actually

So it WAS you who actually paid the car dealer in pennies!!!

LOL yeah a grand fleet of 2. I didn't mention that this would be the first new car purchase for me... Really though, aren't there other processes I have to go through before the actual delivery? Insurance and what not? Man I hope they don't jack up my insurance too much (I'm a male under 25 years of age you see, which in insurer's eyes means "crazy nut job who runs over everyone on the road")...

Actually, I've never even heard of a dealership requiring a certified cheque for buying a brand new vehicle. I'm sure it's happened; but it's not SOP. A personal cheque and sufficient ID are all that is necessary.

Also, it is interesting how many people think that paying in a lump sum is somehow a big benefit to a dealership. How else do you think they get paid? They always get paid in a lump sum. Those monthly payments people make are to a bank, not to the dealership. The bank pays the dealer in full every time.

If you are paying with your own money and not the bank's, then proof of insurance probably won't be required before they give you the car. Not to you say you shouldn't have it, but the dealership probably won't care what you do once the car is paid for.

I have  used personal cheques and have used money drafts depends on the dealership
If they are getting plates I think they would need to have your insurance to get them

Once the car is paid for the dealership won't care if you drive away without a plate either. :)
