Creaking Clutch
« on: January 01, 2007, 03:22:52 pm »
From an internet search this seems to be something that happens on manuals occasionally. Sometimes you get a car that does it, most of the time you don't.

In colder weather when pressing or releasing my clutch I get a creaking sound like an old door. The sound seems like its coming from inside the car. I inquired about it once at the dealership but like always it stopped happening when I drove in. Likely because of the warmness of the service bay area.  There wasn't a lot they could tell me.

He did spray some something on my a pivot point I think he said it was silicone spray. That hasn't really helped.
Anyone had this before and have any comments?  Its Intermittent but frequent.

You can get a friend to help you track down the source of the noise.  Find a  quiet place and one of you presses the clutch while the other listens.

I don't have this issue in my VW hydraulic clutch.

Could be the return spring making the noise when it is compressed, usually some good lube helps keep it quiet on the pivot point or possibly on the spring itself.  :)

This was common on the early ION's as well. The squeak is caused by the clutch push rod squeaking against the clutch master cylinder, the simplest fix is to get a can of white lithium grease, and push the straw through past the rubber boot on the clutch rod & giving the end of the pushrod/front on master a small shot of grease, work the pedal a few times and the noise will be gone.

If your car has a cable-operated clutch, it could be binding. This happened to my car, luckily while it was still under warranty. The dealer replaced the cable and it hasn't made a sound since. :)

After 15 years the springs on the Lazyboy were squeaking and a little bit lubricant worked wonders.

Good luck!
