After taking a hiatus in 2006, the Explorer Sport Trac returns for 2007 with the underpinnings of the redesigned 2006 Explorer SUV, reports Editor, Greg Wilson. Longer and wider, the new Sport Trac is "roomier and more comfortable", and "a much nicer truck to drive," says Wilson.  "It's the kind of vehicle that can perform double duty as an SUV and a DUV ('dirty' utility vehicle)," he says.  It's got room for five adults, and its cargo box "can haul the kind of cargo you'd never think of throwing in the trunk of an Explorer."   More...

Box seems pointlessly small even with the extender. Better to buy an Explorer and rent a real truck for the occasional time you need it.

I'm surprised Ford hasn't dropped the Sportrac from their model line yet. The numbers may prove me wrong, but it doesn't seem like a strong seller. I see the odd previous gen one here and there, but have yet to see the newer ones yet...

Ridgeline can't touch the towing capacity or the off-roading capability of the Sport Track. 

Too bad the fuel economy is so dismal even with the 6 speed trans. But it is a heavy beast...

I've always thought the SportTrac was a great idea.  There are plenty of people who need the utility of a box design, but not the size of even a short box.  The SportTrac offers that with a more comfortable cabin than you'll find in a regular pickup, and better towing capabilities than you'll find in the Ridgeline.

Who are we kidding....nobody tows anything or off roads with these trucks.

I'd rather buy a 2007 Toyota RAV V6, and a 4' x 8' dumper trailer, for about the same price as a base Sport Trac.
