BMW 325i or 98 accord I4?
« on: December 18, 2006, 06:02:40 pm »
hi all... i am going to sell my civic and get another car.

i am deciding between a 1994-95 BMW 325i or 1998 Accord 2.3.

Please dont give me the personal pereference  speech, i know!  ;D

i know  how costly the bmw parts are, no problem, i am a mechanic, i work in a  mechanic garage.

the bmw has decent look, 190 HP and its a smooth ride. it RWD and the interior is so-so , looks nice, but could be better.

the accord is more roomy, kinda looks more "modern" inside and outside. the interior also looks nice, but it has 150 hp (the 2.3L ex). i dont want V6, the japanese V6 are trouble!

so which one would you prefer or go with?
any tips or comments would be apperciated.
Thnaks  in advance.  :)

I would prefer the 325 but would go with the Accord.    ;D

Why are Japanese V6's trouble?  I have 2, in the Pathfinder and Sienna and would like to be prepared for the worst.

Okay I'll skip the personal preference speech. :-\

If I could do all the maintenance and repair work on the BMW I would choose the Bimmer, no question, but I can't so given that choice I would buy the Honda.  :P

hi there...

why u prefer bmw and  go with accord? care to explain?  ;D

well from my experience, japanese V6s are not as reliable as their I4s.
after 200 K km, they start to have major problems, not to mention if they dont pass emmision test, u will be spending a lot of money to get it to pass.
examples include the maxima or v6 camry, and acura legend.

the nissans have their own issues, especially that air control device that is $700.

germans are best for their 6 cylinder  engines, but when it comes to 4 cylinders, they suck! example: bmw 318 i/is

back to topic...any other opinions?  ;D

For me, BMW 325i.  A real drivers car. RWD, Inline 6, plenty of aftermarket parts...  Much more inspiring car then the Accord.

To get the starter out of that car you gotta remove the entire intake and the fuel rail.  If AC is a must have, don't get it.

The 3 for a drivers car but the Accord for reliability and lower cost of ownership.

BTW, I have had more problems with non-Japanese V6's than with the Japanese ones.  Most Pathfinder owners would also tell you that with proper maintenance (ie timing belt) the Nissan V6's are almost bullet proof.

every car has  its own pros and cons.
one part is  easy to remove, other is not.
one car is cheap on a part, while the other isnt.

foir example if u want to change the waterpump on a Grand AM, all the alternator, intake, engoine mount, etc  must be removed.

what about the AC? would u explain whats wrong with bmw  AC systems?

you must be talking about american V6s, everyone knows american engines are disposable.

and for the japnese V6s, my theories come from experience. japanese I4s are much more reliable than the V6s.

 :notroll:

Anyway, I doubt you'll find a single person here who would disagree that (1) the 325i will be more fun to drive, and (2) the Accord i4 will be more fuel-efficient and reliable.  And nobody here can tell you which factor is more important TO YOU.

i'd enjoy bmw's handling and accord's decent aerodynamic and eeficincy. :)

and for Mitlov, of course its my opinion, i'd never reccomend an american car to a friend who is looking for a decent car.

All thoughts of mechanical reliability aside, the BMW drives the RIGHT wheels and the Accord has Wrong-Wheel-Drive.
No place I'd rather be...

Although I like the Accord's roominess and younger "age" (both in years and looks),

If I were a mechanic and didn't have to worry about repairs costing me thousands, I'd get the BMW. Just because it's not every day you get to experience one, and not have to worry about its reliability....  :)

No contest...  if you can do the maintenance and are willing to pay slightly higher prices for parts, buy the BMW.

Since you are in the mechanic business - get the BMW. No comparison to drive.  :D

BTW - I've had several Japanese V6s and nary a problem. In fact, have 2 right now, both 3.3L Toyotas.
